Guys, the people of this country have made their voices heard. They gave us an obvious victory, a convincing victory, a victory that belongs to our people! We won the largest number of 74 million presidential votes in the history of our country. I must admit, it surprised me. Tonight we saw the whole country, all the cities in the country.
Even the whole world, joy gushed out, rekindled confidence and hope for tomorrow and brought a better day. I will remain humble to the trust and confidence you have given me. I promise to be a president who does not seek division and unity. What you see is no longer a red state and a blue state, but only an America. I will use my heart and faith to win the trust of the people of the whole country.
Because this is the America I believe in, it comes from everyone, and this is all our government has to do. Our work needs to restore the soul of the United States, rebuild the backbone of this country-the middle class, and let the United States be respected by the whole world again. It is an honor for me to unite the forces that millions of Americans voted for.
Now, this is the most real work and task, and it is the task of our time. Ladies and gentlemen, as I have said many times before, I am Jill's husband. Without the love and unremitting support of Jill, my sons Hunter and Ashley, my daughter, all our grandchildren and their spouses, and our whole family, I can't stand here.
They are my beloved people. Jill is a mother, a soldier's mother and an educator. She devoted her whole life to education, but teaching is not her only thing. Today is a good day for American educators. Jill will be a great first lady in the White House, and I am proud of her.
I am honored to work with Kamara Harris, the amazing vice president, whose speech you just heard. She made history, becoming the first female and black woman in history, the first South Asian female vice president, and the first immigrant woman elected vice president in this country's history.
Don't tell me this is impossible in America! Tonight, we think of those people who have worked hard for many years to achieve this goal. The United States once again tilted the moral arc to justice. Kamala, Doug, like it or not, you are family. You've become an honorary Biden, and you won't back down.
For all the volunteers and local civil servants who volunteered to vote during the epidemic, you should get special thanks from the people of the whole country. And my campaign team, all the volunteers and all the people who have worked hard for this moment. I appreciate you, I appreciate you, I appreciate everything you do!
I want to say to all those who support us that I am proud of our efforts in this election. I am proud of our alliance. The most extensive and diverse alliance in history. Democrats, Republicans, independents, progressives, moderates, conservatives, young people, the elderly, urban residents, suburban residents, rural residents, homosexuals, heterosexuals, transgender people, whites, Latinos, Asians, Native Americans.
I'm serious, especially at those moments, especially when the campaign was at a low ebb, African Americans stood up for me again. You always support me, and I will support you. I said at the beginning that I wanted to make America look like America through this election. We have done it, and this is what I want to see the government look like and act.
Now, for all those who voted for President Trump, I understand the disappointment tonight. I've lost a few times myself, but let's give each other a chance now. It's time to put down harsh words, lower the temperature, meet again and listen to each other again. In order to achieve this goal, we must stop treating our opponents as enemies. They are not our enemies, they are Americans, they are Americans.
The Bible tells us, "Everything has a time: when it is established, when it is harvested, when it is sown, and when it is healed. It's time for America to heal. Now that the election is over, what hope can the people have? What is our task? I believe the answer is: Americans call on us to unite collective forces and fair forces to fight.
This is a struggle to mobilize the power of science and hope, control the virus, build prosperity, strive for family medical care, realize racial justice and eradicate systematic racism in this country in our time. There is also the battle to save the earth by controlling the climate. Restore dignity, defend democracy and achieve equality for all in this country.
Ladies and gentlemen, this is what they want. Our work begins with controlling the COVID-19 epidemic. For the time being, we can't restart the economy, regain our vitality or savor the most precious moments in our lives, such as hugging our grandchildren, holding our birthdays, weddings, graduation ceremonies, all the most important moments for us until we completely control the virus.
On Monday, I will appoint a group of scientists and experts as transition consultants to join the Biden-Harris COVID-19 Plan and turn it into a blueprint for action, which will be implemented on1October 20th. The plan will be based on basic science. It will be built by love and care. I will spare no effort to reverse the epidemic. Guys, I am a proud Democrat, and I will run the country as the president of the United States.
Whether you voted for me or not, I will try my best to end the demonization of America now. The refusal of the Democratic Party and the Republican Party to cooperate should not be an obstacle that we cannot solve. This is a decision. The choices we need to make. Since we can decide not to cooperate, we can decide to cooperate. I believe this is part of the task entrusted to us by the American people.
They want us to cooperate for their benefit, which is the choice I have to make. I call on Congress, Democrats and Republicans to join me in making this choice. The American story contains too much slow progress. There is no doubt that too many dreams have been put off for too long. We must make the country's promise true to everyone, regardless of their race, nationality, belief, identity or disability.
My friends, America is always shaped by turning points. At those critical moments, we made difficult decisions about who we are and what we want to be. 1860 Lincoln came to save the Union. 1932, Roosevelt promised to reach a new agreement with a troubled country. 1960, Kennedy promised to open up the frontier.
12 years ago, when barack obama made history, he told us yes: yes, we can. My friends, we are now at a new turning point. We have the opportunity to overcome despair and build a prosperous and hopeful country. We can do it. I know we can! I always say this is a battle for the American soul. We must restore the soul of America.
Our country is shaped by the constant fighting between angels who make us better and demons who plunge us into darkness. What the president said in this battle is very important. It's time for our better angel to win. Tonight, the whole world is watching America. I believe that under the best circumstances, the United States is the beacon of the world.
We should not only take our own strength as an example, but also take the power of example as the guide. I know, and I always believe that we can define America in one word: possibility. In America, everyone should have the opportunity to realize their dreams and the ability given by God.
I believe in the possibility of this country. We have been looking forward to a freer and fairer America. Towards an America that can cure diseases such as cancer and Alzheimer's disease. Towards an America that never lags behind. Towards an America that never gives up and never gives in. This is a great country. Going against America is always a bad bet.
We are kind people. This is America. When we work together, there is nothing we can't do. Ladies and gentlemen, in the last few days of the campaign, I thought of a hymn that is of great significance to me and my family, especially my late son. It captures the faith that supports me and America.
I hope it can give some comfort to the 230 million Americans who lost their loved ones this year because of this terrible virus. My heart is with each of you. I hope this hymn can comfort you, too It goes like this: "He will hold up your eagle wings, let you breathe the light, make you shine like the sun, and hold you in the palm of his hand."
Now, we put on eagle wings together, with trust in the United States and each other, with love for the country and desire for justice, and set foot on the call of God and history to work. We know that we can become a united country, a strong country and a healthy country. Ladies and gentlemen, nothing is impossible for America.
So remember, as my grandfather, he said that when I was a child growing up in scranton, when I walked out of his house, he said, "Joey, keep faith." When our grandmother was alive, she shouted, "No, Joey, pass it on! Spread faith. " God loves you all. May God bless America, and may God protect our troops. thank you
