What is indifference?
For example, when we meet a person who is seriously ill, we will naturally show sympathy and want to help him. Sometimes, we don't necessarily need to cultivate or deliberately sympathize. It should be said that this is a natural phenomenon. Sakyamuni Buddha taught us to let nature take its course. Besides, it's important not to be artificial. Let me give you a simple example. Buddhism wants us to break our own insistence. If I belong to a vegetarian group, I will feel disgusted when I see meat eaters. This disgust and dislike of him. You don't belong to our vegetarian group. You eat meat and feel disgusted. In fact, this aversion is a kind of persistence. So generally speaking, there is only a little difference between good and evil in the eyes of Buddha. Why do you feel sick? Because you are persistent; Why is there a heart full of love? It is because of your persistence that it will happen. There is a deep philosophical flavor here, that is, if you are persistent and think that the other person is evil, you will resent it and become an ignorant persistent phenomenon. According to the Buddha, this phenomenon is not easy to extricate oneself. According to the Buddha, you must get rid of persistence. Then, in this way, your compassion will appear, because you got rid of persistence and showed compassion when it was time for compassion, instead of producing that kind of disgust. I had this problem myself before. I was a vegetarian when I first started studying Buddhism. When I see someone who eats meat, I feel unwilling to sit with him. I think this man is dirty. He eats meat. This man is dirty and unsympathetic. This is a phenomenon of ignorance. Today, in a nutshell, it is very troublesome to divide Buddhism into people and people. Once separated, you are on my side, and I am especially kind to you, because we are the same person; You are not on our side, I will definitely ignore you, no matter what Buddhism, religion or faction you are. I will never make friends with him anyway. This leads to ignorance, resentment and hatred, and resentment becomes inequality. This is only a small and subtle difference, but all living beings don't understand it. The Buddha taught us that we must have an equal heart. What is the lack of great kindness caused by equality? this is nothing to do with you. You pity him. It's true. this is nothing to do with you. He is not a human being or a vegetarian. He has nothing to do with Buddha. It's merciful of you to pity him. He is related to you by blood, belongs to your sect, is a vegetarian, and you care about him. This is a kind of compassion with grievances and relatives, which is also considered compassion, but there are differences. The Buddha said that compassion should be born equal, and there is no difference. This is great compassion. Only in this way, his realm will be very high, to the realm of bodhisattva and Buddha, otherwise it will be in the realm of the heavens, which is a great ignorance trap. According to the Buddha, an equal and undifferentiated heart is a great compassion. As long as you meet him, you should go easy on him. There is no special insistence. It is difficult for this person in the world to do this. Therefore, the Buddha is special, the Buddha is different from the world, and he is different. This is the main reason! There is no persistent compassion for all beings, which is the compassion of the Buddha itself. If you talk about compassion, but you are different, most of them are different, and all beings are different, so when you talk about compassion, you will be divided into many levels. What the Buddha means is that it is natural, vast and indifferent to each other. So, it belongs to you, me, him and others. The Diamond Sutra says that "there is no one without me" is this realm, and so is the fact. But to be able to understand what the Diamond Sutra says: "There are no beings without me", there are very few people in this world! You see, many exorcists say so, and there's nothing they can do. It is really hard for all beings to be detached. Therefore, it is a slogan to say "heartless, with great sorrow". Sometimes, just a slogan is done with "heart". It is wrong to have that heart and use it to do compassionate things! To do merciful things "unintentionally" is to leave ignorance.
