Guangdong team, whose full name is Guangdong Hongyuan South China Tiger Club, was founded in 1993 and is one of the founding teams of China Men's Basketball Professional League. Guangdong Hongyuan's team name comes from Guangdong Hongyuan Group, the sponsor of the team. Guangdong Hongyuan Group provided financial and resource support at the beginning of the establishment of the team, so the team was named after Hongyuan.
