When the Qing dynasty entered the customs, it was met with desperate resistance from the Han people. The great differences between the two cultures make it difficult for them to live in harmony. At that time, in order to quickly stabilize the country, the rulers were cruel and gave cruel orders directly. Those who did not surrender, obey or shave their heads were beheaded directly, and all nine families were implicated, and none was left. What is even more exaggerated is that they kill people one city at a time (such as the three butchers in Yangzhou) and kill all the disobedient Han Chinese. Under such violent law enforcement, the Qing dynasty quickly completed reunification, but this unity was based on the mountains of blood and corpses.
Under the prosperity of the whole Qing dynasty, what is hidden is their bloodthirsty behavior. In the past 300 years in the Qing Dynasty, as many as 40 to 50 million Han people were killed, which was terrible to the extreme. Therefore, although the Han people have been pretending to obey the Manchu rule on the surface, they are actually very resistant and disgusted with these Manchu people.
It is precisely because of the Manchu people's rejection and disrespect for the Han people that there have been countless organizations that want to overthrow the rule of the Qing Dynasty, such as the Heaven and Earth Society and the White Lotus Society, almost since the establishment of the Qing Dynasty. Including Hong Xiuquan's "Worship God", it is also under the banner of "opposing the Qing Dynasty and regaining sight" to drive Manchu out of the customs. Under this premise, how can the Taiping Heavenly Kingdom Movement led by Hong Xiuquan cherish or respect Manchu people? I wish I could kill them all.
In fact, after Hong Xiuquan launched the "Taiping Heavenly Kingdom" movement, his slogan was "Kill all Clear The Demon", and even put forward the strategic policy of "swearing to kill the Eight Banners to secure the world", that is, kill Manchu whenever you see it, and never be soft, just like killing Han people after Manchu enters the customs. We must answer blows with blows and let them feel the counterattack of the Han people.
So since the Taiping Heavenly Kingdom began to sweep China, almost as long as a city was laid, the first thing they had to do was to rush in and arrest Manchu. The way to catch Manchu is the same as that to catch Han people. Wearing gorgeous clothes, robbing. People who live all over the city, rob. Hold on, Bigfoot. If you speak with an accent, catch it. When the masses report it, they will continue to catch it ... almost in line with their mentality that they would rather kill 3 thousand by mistake than let go of one, and catch as much as they can. And this kind of catching and killing, regardless of men, women and children, even newborn children, as long as there are many people.
Even in order to encourage everyone to identify with Manchu, Hong Xiuquan also formulated a reward mechanism, and every time he caught a Manchu or the children of the Eight Banners, he was rewarded with five taels of silver. What is this concept? At that time, five taels of silver was more than our present 52 thousand. But the streets are full of people. Grasping and killing Manchu has almost become a national carnival movement.
In the most extreme cases, such a "killing full" action is staged almost every day. When the Taiping Army invaded Nanjing, the Manchu people in Nanjing knew that if they let the Taiping Army in, they would die. Even the old lady joined the fight against the Taiping rebels. In the end, the whole city was slaughtered, and nearly 30 thousand people died in the Eight Banners alone, not to mention tens of thousands of ordinary Manchu people. In this battle, only a few hundred Manchu people escaped in Nanjing, and the rest were nearly 100 thousand people, none of whom survived.
For another example, after the Taiping Army laid the Jintan, only 30,000 people were killed, killed and fled in the original county. Before the fall of Hangzhou, there were more than one million people, and only 70,000 people died in the end. There are also small cities like Jiujiang, Wuhu and Zhenjiang, and almost everyone has died. During the ten years of the Taiping Heavenly Kingdom, at least 500,000 to 600,000 ordinary Manchu people were killed. Not to mention the children of the Eight Banners.
Hong Xiuquan shouted "get rid of the demon" and "kill the demon", but what is the difference between his behavior and the "demon" in his mouth? Don't you treat human life as human life? It is precisely because of his crazy killing behavior that Zeng Guofan's Xiang army retaliated against them in the form of massacre in the later period. Hong Xiuquan killed a city full of people, and they killed a city full of citizens. So between you and me, in just fifteen years, more than 70 million people died in the Qing Dynasty, equivalent to nearly half of the population at that time.
How can such a peasant uprising movement, which shouted "overthrow the Qing Dynasty and drive away the Manchu", succeed in the end and become a tool for a person to vent his selfish desires?
