Development history
The Ivy League originated in the 1950s. The above universities had social and sports competitions as early as the end of 19 th century, and 1956 brewed the idea of an alliance school. When making rules for sports competitions, schools should further formulate rules for Ivy League schools, elect principals, sports directors and some administrative directors of alliance schools, and hold regular meetings to discuss enrollment, finance, funding, administration and other related issues among schools.
There were only four universities in the early Ivy League: Harvard, Yale, Columbia and Princeton. The Roman numeral 4 is "IV", and the suffix Y becomes "IVY", which means Ivy in English, so it is also called an Ivy League school. Later, the alliance of these four universities expanded to eight and became a prestigious Ivy League school.
