First, the birth of Xiang Army. After the rise of the Taiping Heavenly Kingdom, the Eight Banners system in the Qing Dynasty was so decadent that it was unable to resist the resistance of the emerging rural class. It was not until this time that the Qing army realized the importance of the Han people, so it began to reuse the ministers of the Han people, give them full military power, let them form their own army, and let Zeng Guofan have room to exert his abilities. So Zeng Guofan formed the Xiang Army, which became more and more brave in the Vietnam War and put down the Taiping Heavenly Kingdom Movement. With the support of Xiang army, the Qing government survived.
Second, the Xiang army pacified the Taiping Heavenly Kingdom movement. In the early days of the Taiping Heavenly Kingdom Movement, because many people were dissatisfied with the rule of the Qing government, Hong Xiuquan was able to get the support of a large number of people in Guangdong and Guangxi in a short time, who joined and expanded the Taiping Army. However, although the Taiping Army was invincible, it was completely annihilated in front of the invincible Xiang Army, and the Xiang Army also left a rich and colorful stroke in history.
Third, the contribution of Xiang Army. In addition to the Taiping Heavenly Kingdom Movement, Xiang Army also participated in suppressing the Nian Army Uprising and recovering Xinjiang. Xiang Army appeared in many wars and became an important force in the late Qing Dynasty. Even some historians say that Xiang can be seen in War of Resistance against Japanese Aggression. Moreover, many of the international expeditionary forces sent to Myanmar in those years were from Hunan, which shows that the combat effectiveness of the Xiang army is very effective on the international stage.
