Ren Hua was one of the main founders of teaching the history of western philosophy before and after the founding of New China. He is familiar with China's classical literature, Greek, Latin, English, German, French, Russian and other languages. Main research fields: ancient Greek and Roman philosophy; 18th century French philosophy; Modern western practical philosophy and phenomenology. With a solid knowledge of Greek and profound philosophical accomplishment, Ren Hua undertook the research and manuscript writing of ancient Greece and Rome in the history of western philosophy, and participated in the translation of Selected Readings of Western Philosophy, and achieved good results. In the study of pragmatic philosophy, Ren Hua has two important viewpoints: affirming that pragmatic philosophy reveals the defects of materialism in the view of "experience"; Affirm the positive significance of the pragmatic slogan "limiting knowledge and defending human values"
When Ren Hua was studying for a master's degree, his major was logic and he had a solid foundation in mathematics and physics. On this basis, turning to the history of western philosophy can be said to have both arts and sciences. His lectures are very popular with students. A Peking University student recalled: "In the 1950s, Mr. Ren taught medieval and modern western philosophy. Although he studied in Germany and France successively and is familiar with many languages, he still wears cotton-padded clothes in class. He also has deep myopia, and his nose almost touched the paper when reading the speech. He quotes classics, talks humorously, and often uses interesting stories as metaphors, which contains profound philosophical truth. In the early 1990s, under the leadership of Mr. Zhu Desheng, I visited Mr. Ren in Zhongguancun Dormitory in Beijing. At this point, he has entered the eighties, his wife has left before him, and his children are not around. His eyes are almost blind and it is difficult for him to take care of himself. According to Mr. Zhu, he hired a male nanny to wait on him, which made me sad. How can a famous old professor like him live like this in his later years? "
