On behalf of overseas Chinese in Singapore, Chen Jiageng telephoned President Mao Zedong to express his response to China's call for a New Deal and the establishment of a democratic coalition government.

Overseas Chinese in Thailand, French-Chinese trade unions and Canadian overseas Chinese also called President the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China and President Mao Zedong to warmly respond to the May 1 call. The overseas Chinese delegations in Klindang, Malaysia and Perak also sent telegrams respectively. More than 100 representatives from 65 overseas Chinese delegations in Penang and Wesley held a joint meeting and unanimously passed a resolution denying Chiang Kai-shek's presidency and responding to the "May 1" call with electricity.
