In 2022, the Beijing Winter Olympics will fully implement the Green Olympics, fully transform and utilize the original Olympic venues such as Bird's Nest, Water Cube and Wukesong, and add new venues to reduce the environmental impact from the design source. The National Speed Skating Pavilion "Ice Belt" will become the first avenue speed skating pavilion in the world to make ice with carbon dioxide transcritical direct cooling system, and its carbon emission will approach zero.
All the venues of the Winter Olympics meet the green building standards, and the conventional energy 100% uses green electricity. Energy-saving and clean energy vehicles in the Winter Olympics accounted for 84.9% of all vehicles guaranteed during the Games, which was the highest in previous Winter Olympics.
At the opening ceremony, "no ignition" was used instead of "ignition" and "slight fire" was used instead of raging fire, which fully reflected low carbon and environmental protection. By using photovoltaic and wind energy to generate electricity, donating forestry carbon sinks locally, and sponsoring enterprises to verify carbon emission reduction, China successfully fulfilled its commitment to achieve carbon neutrality in the Beijing Winter Olympics, which became the first "carbon neutral" Winter Olympics so far.
