Liu Yingjun's external evaluation
On July 28th, 1966, People's Daily published an editorial, which wrote with warm praise tone and prose style:

"Comrade Mao Zedong often educates us to learn the selfless dedication of Comrade Bethune. He said:' a person has great ability, but as long as he has this spirit, he is a noble person, a pure person, a moral person, and a person who is free from vulgar tastes and beneficial to the people.'

This spirit is to serve the people wholeheartedly.

This spirit is to adapt to the needs of the cause of * * *, work hard all my life, work hard, seek no fame, seek no profit, be willing to be a screw and be an ordinary soldier in the people's revolutionary cause.

This spirit is for the people, for the revolution, and is not afraid of suffering or death. As Comrade Mao Zedong said, it is heavier to die for the benefit of the people than Mount Tai.

Whoever has this spirit can withstand all serious class struggles, revolutionary wars and all kinds of difficulties and hardships.

In the people's revolutionary war, they can be Dong Cunrui, Huang Jiguang, Ismail, Muhammad, Luo Guangxie and Xiande Mai.

In front of the enemy's hay cutter and tiger bench, you can become Liu Hulan and Jiang Zhujun.

In a crisis, you can be Xiang, Ouyang Hai, and.

In the face of intense work and fatal illness, you can become Gioyuru.

In your ordinary daily work, you can be Lei Feng, a Lei Feng-style figure ... "

At the end of the editorial is an unusual slogan: "Long live Comrade Liu Yingjun, the good son of the people!"

The other four members were Chen Baocong, Chang 'an, Liu Fulin and An Wenqing. The five of us were sent to Liu Yingjun by Li Yinghua, director of literature and art of the Military Region, for a month or two. During the interview, I lived in Class 3 of Heavy Artillery Company, where Liu Yingjun lived before his death. I got in touch with the leaders, comrades-in-arms and many local villagers who are closely related to Liu Yingjun at the first time, and got first-hand materials about Liu Yingjun's deeds. In particular, Li Hongji, the monitor of Liu Yingjun, gave me a newspaper clipping kept in Liu Yingjun and Hejiang Daily, which reported Liu Yingjun's deeds for the first time on April 2,1966; Wei Jihua, a comrade-in-arms of Liu Yingjun, told me that a newspaper clipping given to him by Liu Yingjun was my prose poem "Burning Youth" published in the "Forward". ...
