Gold backup first appeared in "Gold Backup #1"(1986). After Infinite Crisis on Earth, he was placed as an important figure in the DC universe. The following year, he appeared as a full member in the Justice League series comics, and remained a team member until 1996 when the group was dissolved and gave way to a well-known organization-Justice League of America. He and his teammates later appeared in Super Partner.

On March 16, 2007, in the Wizarding World of Los Angeles, Dan Diddio released a new series called "New Gold Backup", which was later published as "Gold Backup". This series of events "52" will be written by Jeff Jones and Jeff Katz, and painted by Dan Jenkins and Repmud. The main plot of this series is that the gold backup reaches various times and regions of the DC universe through time and space. There are also lip hunting, robot UFO and supernova (played by Daniel Carter) as supplementary roles in the series. The slogan of the new series is "The greatest hero the world will never know".
