Languages in Singapore:
Singapore is a multilingual country, and its official languages include English, Chinese, Malay and Tamil. Based on the historical origin with Malaysia, the Constitution of Singapore clearly stipulates that Malay is the national language of Singapore.
Since Singapore's independence, the government has always regarded English as the main lingua franca and teaching language among ethnic groups, and positioned it as the "first language". Singapore's constitution and laws are also written in English, and languages other than English are also translated into English in court.
In the Chinese community in Singapore, Chinese students must accept the bilingual education system of "English as the main language, supplemented by Chinese" at the basic education stage, and take Chinese courses of 10 to 12 years. However, compared with English application ability, Singapore's Chinese listening and speaking ability is ok, but its "reading and writing ability" is weakening.
