The history of Gru
"Gruwu" special forces (спецназгру) were established in the 1950s. At that time, Marshal zhukov, then Minister of National Defense, proposed to Su * * * the Political Bureau of the Central Committee to establish a special intelligence subversion force in the border military region. In case of war or pre-war crisis, in the early days of its establishment, the army's clothing was various, first wearing motorized infantry clothing, then wearing pilot and signalman clothing, and finally formally changing into special forces clothing. 1979 in view of the tense situation in Afghanistan, the Soviet general staff decided to set up special forces in the Turkmen military region. The members of this unit are all Uzbeks and Tajiks. They all speak the local language of Afghanistan. After its establishment, this unit was sent to the battlefield in Afghanistan, attacked the presidential palace of Afghan President Amin together with Russian "Alpha" special forces, and entered Kabul, the capital of Afghanistan, in August 1979 to carry out sabotage activities behind enemy lines. Because Afghan guerrillas pose a great threat to Soviet troops invading Afghanistan, the Soviet Chief of Staff, Ajello Mayev, decided to send two more special forces with about 6,000 troops to Afghanistan at 1985. In the Soviet-Afghan war, the "Gru" special forces lost 19 1 person and wiped out more than 5,000 Afghan mujahideen. They seized enough weapons to equip a division. After the Soviet Union announced its withdrawal from Afghanistan, it was the last troop to withdraw.
