The main task of pontoon bridge troops in wartime is to ensure the safety and smoothness of our marching route and supply line. After all, when the two armies are at war, fast marching and fast delivery of materials are effective guarantees for combat effectiveness. Internationally, apart from our army, the Soviet Union (Russian Army) and the US Army are the countries that attach the most importance to the development of pontoon bridge forces so far. Every time there is any new equipment, I never forget to develop it for the pontoon bridge troops. At present, Russian engineers account for 10% of the total number of Russian troops, and the US military is even more exaggerated, reaching 12%. Moreover, our army often conducts joint exercises with the Russian army for pontoon bridge troops.
When there is no war at ordinary times, apart from training, the pontoon bridge troops are also responsible for emergency rescue and disaster relief. Every time there is a flood, there will be pontoon troops. When the flood comes, the pontoon troops will use their assault boats to cooperate with local fire fighting to rescue and transfer people trapped in the middle of the flood. In addition, they will be responsible for repairing bridges and transporting materials. It can be described as a real peacetime and wartime dual-purpose army. Of course there is a misunderstanding. Many people think that pontoon bridge troops are responsible for repairing bridges. Strictly speaking, this belongs to the work of engineering troops. The pontoon bridge force is mainly responsible for letting you cross the river quickly without a bridge available.
Under normal circumstances, pontoon bridge troops will use trucks to load equipment for crossing the river. Then reverse the car by water and put the equipment into the water. Then cooperate with the assault boat to expand the equipment, and finally successfully build the water traffic line. However, some heavy equipment, such as main battle tanks, still cross the river by transporting grain. After all, the weight of the modern main station tank is close to 70 tons, not to mention the proposed pontoon bridge, even many permanent bridges can't bear such weight.
