Usually, some common ports such as 80, 2 1, 3306 and 3389 are open, but for security or application needs, we need to open or close some common or uncommon ports. How does VPS open and close ports?

Open and close ports in the firewall:

The port is opened according to the startup of corresponding programs and applications. Firewalls or other protections in VPS servers also have the function of closing ports. In other words, sometimes even if we run a service and open the corresponding port, it can't be used normally because of the interception of the firewall.

1. Log in to the VPS server remotely, open the "Network Settings" interface, and click "Change Firewall Settings";

2. In the "Change Firewall Settings" interface that opens, click the "Exceptions" window and open or close the corresponding ports through "Add Ports and Delete".

Open and close the service item corresponding to the port:

On the VPS server, the installation and operation of each network application will have a default server port number, which will be opened with the operation of the application or service. Such as web server port 80, FTP server port 2 1, MySQL database port 3306, remote login port 3389 and SMTP server port 25.

We can open, close or replace other port numbers by setting the default port number settings of related applications or services, and we can also open and close ports through service management.

1. Log in to the VPS server remotely, right-click "My Computer" and select "Manage" to open the "Management Tools" interface;

2. In the opened Management Tools interface, select the item "Services and Applications" and double-click to open it, then select the item "Services" and double-click to open it;

3. According to the ports that need to be opened and closed, and the service description, select the corresponding application service item, and choose to start or close.

For the security of VPS server, Sinesafe suggests that you change the default remote login port 3306 and open other ports instead, such as 15673. It is suggested to close some uncommon application service ports, such as port 23 of Telnet service, port 25 of SMTP service and port 135 of RPC service. It is recommended not to open too many unnecessary ports, but to open a few more windows, so there will be more doors for hackers.
