Hoh Xil Nature Reserve is located in Yushu Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture in southwest Qinghai. It is an alpine platform spanning Qinghai, Xinjiang and Tibet. The reserve borders Tibet in the west, Golmud Tanggula Township in the south, Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region in the north and Qinghai-Tibet Highway in the east, with a total area of 45,000 square kilometers.
