What is the university in everyone's mind?
My idea of a university campus

Everyone always has various "complexes". For example, people who can't go to college often yearn for the university campus. For college students, apart from their feelings for their alma mater, they are always full of special yearning for those famous university campuses. I am no exception. You don't have to go to a scenic spot to go anywhere, you must go to the university campus. Both the old campus and the new campus have their own connotations and charms. Every time I walk in that strange and familiar university campus and watch almost the same young and wise faces come and go, I often think that I am also a member of that school. Every university campus is different and unique, and it can't even be evaluated by its advantages and disadvantages. Each university campus has its own different style and temperament, and has established my ideal university campus.

The university campus in my mind is a green campus. The green here is not only the color, but also the green at first. Before I entered the university, the university campus in my mind was full of green grass and towering old trees. On the other side of the wall, students are sitting around the broad lawn, enjoying the sunshine, talking about ideals and discussing academics. Entering the school gate, two rows of tall trees reveal the profound connotation and long history of an institution of higher learning. But the reality is not exactly what I imagined. There are trees, but their shapes and feelings are different. In my opinion, the beauty of the campus is largely due to the trees. "A man sat under a tree and talked with several other people about his ideas. The speaker does not know that he is a teacher, and the listener does not know that he is a student. The students were so absorbed that they were surprised. If only this man could stay. So they drew a place in that position, and the first school in the world was born. " (Louis Kahn). In the eyes of architects and planners, what must a university have? In addition to masters, big trees are also essential. If there are no trees and green around, even the best buildings will be eclipsed. And different styles of buildings can be unified in a generous green system. With trees and Woods, there is a landscape of exercising in the trees in the morning and reading early in the green trees; With trees and Woods, there are magical patterns in which warblers sing at the top of trees in early spring, cicadas sing in the shade in summer, golden laurels spread fragrance in the distance in Mid-Autumn Festival, and moonlight weaves on the ground in winter night. I have been to Tsinghua campus many times. The most rewarding thing was to accompany President Wen to visit Professor Miao Rixin in Tsinghua two years ago. Professor Miao is an old Tsinghua who has been engaged in campus planning and construction for a long time. He is quite proud of an article "The Changes of Tsinghua Campus in Ninety Years", which has attracted many visitors on the campus network in Tsinghua. Professor Miao showed us around the Tsinghua campus, explained the buildings and gardens on campus one by one, and had the I-hall where President Tsinghua worked specially opened. The beauty of Tsinghua campus is well known. Her beauty lies not only in architecture, but also in gardens and trees. Trees are very noble in Tsinghua. No one can touch them and they will never bow to anyone. People come and go, buildings rise and fall, and trees don't move. This tradition has been well inherited. Not long ago, I watched Shen Junshan's Stories of Trees in Tsinghua in the Southern Weekend. It said that in the early 1970s, Tsinghua University in Hsinchu, Taiwan Province, wanted to cut down an old banyan tree because of building an auditorium. The radical professor tied himself to the tree and vowed to protect it. I also made up a tree-protecting song: "The greatness of a university lies not in its architecture, but in its masters. It's hard to find a master, so plant a big tree. Big trees are hard to grow, so protect them! "Later, the tree was removed and replanted, but it failed to survive after all, leaving only a stump for future generations to remember.

Green campus is ecological. In his book The Road to Urban Landscape, Dr. Yu uses Crying Mother River as the preface. The preface reads: "My cruel sons and daughters, why do you want to intercept my flowing and continuous body with a high dam, dismember me and cut me off ... My ignorant sons and daughters, why do you want to cut me open and straighten me cruelly, and then wrap my natural and beautiful body with reinforced concrete to suffocate me like a zombie ... My vulgar sons and daughters, you think I am covered with grass. You think I'm crooked and natural, but isn't that the essence of my poetry and painting? " Dr. Yu's book also has a subtitle-communicating with mayors. However, from his appeal for "the soul is back", can't we also understand and learn a lot? I had the opportunity to go to Japan last year. Tsukuba, Japan is a scientific research city with national experimental research and educational institutions as the main body, and is known as the "Silicon Valley" of Japan. The University of Tsukuba is located in the center of this science city. The University of Tsukuba has no walls. From a bird's eye view of Tsukuba, you will find that the whole campus of Tsukuba University is covered with green, which forms an extremely obvious boundary with the buildings in the surrounding urban areas. The campus of the University of Tsukuba is not very regular, and the campus is also divided into blocks. However, from the difference of vegetation coverage between campus and urban area, you can easily distinguish the two. It is said that the campus of the University of Tsukuba used to be a wasteland, but it has only been built for more than 30 years now. In the past, due to investment and other reasons, China's university campus construction had to emphasize practical functions and pay less attention to the relationship between campus and environment, ecology, subject development and student growth. Nowadays, the construction of university town and new campus is in the ascendant, and huge investment has been made in campus environment and ecological construction. Among the colleges and universities I have been to, Jiang 'an Campus of Sichuan University, with the theme of "surrounded by meandering water and shaded by green islands", strives to create an ecological garden like a living water park. Tianjin University is striving to build an ecological campus with water as the main body. Zhejiang University will "build a town with water and a garden with water" and build a giant "University Garden" covering an area of 8,700 mu in the west of Hangzhou. There is also an architecture university in the north, which boldly put a large area of rice fields into the campus as a landscape, causing mixed comments. In fact, ecology is to adapt to local conditions, with the least destruction and change. The more ecological, the more unique and unrepeatable. Students of Sichuan Agriculture who were a little earlier may remember that there used to be six bungalow classrooms behind Yifu Building, surrounded by many stout cherry trees. There used to be a basketball court and two two-story dormitory buildings, and there was a dense grape corridor in front of the student dormitory. Every spring and summer, after school, there are always many people who can't wait to pick the sour fruit that will never mature. Now that I think about it, how sweet and distant it is. Isn't this what many of us are deliberately pursuing now?

Green campus is sustainable development. Many times, deciding what not to do is more valuable and important than deciding what to do. Creating a green campus is to implement the concept of sustainable development in all aspects of campus planning and construction, leaving a reasonable space for the development of universities.

The university campus in my mind is a humanistic campus. School is a place where people place their hopes, and it is also a base for human beings to cultivate successors in order to make their civilization develop according to their established values and world outlook. "Today's China, from primary school, middle school to university, all the goals are to increase students' knowledge in order to acquire enough skills to develop civilization. Compared with the west, its mind and nature are lacking, so it is dull. Therefore, in a place like a school, in addition to the arrangement of functions, the form of space, the form of architecture and the significance of the environment, it is very important for students' spiritual and sexual edification. " (Liu Yabo's Enlightenment Architecture) Campus is a special place for educating people. Since its birth, universities have always been regarded as the spiritual home of mankind. Campus landscape, which consists of architecture, landscape, sculpture and cultural facilities, accumulates the history, tradition, culture and spirit of the school and contains great potential educational functions. Pang Xun, a student from Peking University, wrote in her illustrated book Map of Peking University: "Without the unnamed lake, there would be no cleverness of Peking University people". Speaking of Tsinghua, "Tsinghua's four major buildings are scattered in this area: the library, the gymnasium, the science museum and the auditorium ... they are a mixture of ancient Greek and Roman styles ... The spiritual vitality and rational tradition of ancient Greece, the rules of ancient Rome and the discipline of the legal system still remain in the school spirit and study style of Tsinghua" (Pang Xun's Picture of Tsinghua). Every university has its own history and philosophy. A good campus landscape can give people a kind of spiritual inspiration, create an overall environmental atmosphere and form an overall educational atmosphere. How to materialize and express the humanistic spirit and value connotation that the school has formed and accumulated for a long time through the overall planning and spatial layout at the macro level, the architectural modeling and landscape form at the meso level, and the cultural facilities and image signs at the micro level, and create a better environment for students to increase their knowledge, cultivate their sentiments, purify their souls and shape their excellent characters through the campus landscape construction, so that millions of students will be invisibly inspired by the university spirit when they enter the university hall, and will be called silently by the school-running concept to become the university spirit. Needless to say, compared with comprehensive universities and many normal colleges, as an agricultural college, it is relatively lacking in this respect. The root cause is precisely the reflection of different cultural backgrounds of different types of schools, which in itself is a cultural phenomenon worth studying. The problem is how to excavate and materialize the tradition and spirit of the school, pay persistent attention to it, and do it with care from the details, instead of trying to fill it in a short time because of the lack. In fact, the "culture" on campus is just like the "quality" of students. What can be filled in a short time is by no means the real "culture", but just some slogans, decorative items or some superficial "culture" fur.

Humanistic campus should also be humanized campus. All buildings and their facilities on campus should be humanized and full of humanistic care, providing convenience for the study, life and work exchanges between teachers and students. It should not be designed for design, it is not only to show a gorgeous style or for visual beauty, but should be used conveniently by every real teacher and student. But there are countless negative examples. I noticed such an embarrassing fact: due to the non-optimal design of roads in greening, people will still walk out of the lawn, although this is a place where university presidents are mainly trained. In the past, because the investment in university campus construction was based on a single project, people paid more attention to the single building and less attention to the outdoor space of the campus, which was often simply regarded as the rest of the campus building layout. Therefore, Academician Pan Yunhe, President of Zhejiang University, put forward the concept of "University Park", which is to replace the former "building plus greening" with "building plus garden", and some landscape planners put forward the theory of "anti-planning", emphasizing the need to plan non-construction land first. But the problem is that most campuses have been difficult to change from the big layout. People's understanding has made great progress from focusing only on single buildings to attaching importance to the supporting construction of outdoor space, from pursuing the visual effect of design to emphasizing the use of functions, from satisfying functions to fully considering users' needs and experiences. We still have to reflect and study again. To build a humanized campus, we need to start from understanding human nature and know that as a person, "we need to communicate and are afraid of loneliness;" Need to exercise, but also need to sit down and rest; Need to look at others without being seen; Need a sense of security, but also need challenges; You need to take a smooth road, but sometimes you like wading, walking, crossing obstacles and crossing bridges; Need attention, like to pay attention to others. "Only when our design is not to show anything, but to design for the needs, life and experience of ordinary people, and only when we build a space that allows people to' stop in it' instead of just passing through the area, can such design and construction be called a humanized campus.

The university campus in my mind is a digital campus. The so-called digital campus is to build a campus digital space on the basis of traditional campus space, and fully digitize the information resources related to school teaching, scientific research, management and life service, so that it can be accessed and used conveniently no matter who is on campus, when and where. The establishment of university campus network has laid the foundation for digital campus. However, I appeal that the information I need can no longer be found in documents and books, I can no longer face paper and pens, and I can no longer have so much trouble and wait when using the Internet.
