According to the Japanese Defense Ministry, the space combat team started with about 20 people. We will monitor the geostationary orbit with a height of about 36,000 kilometers by using the radar built in Onoda City, Yangshan, Yamaguchi Prefecture, and carry out the task of protecting satellites from threats such as garbage, and strive to launch our own space surveillance satellites before 2026. The Japanese Defense Ministry will also cooperate with the US military and Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency to build an information sharing system.
Extended data:
Present situation of space junk
According to the statistics of NASA, there are about 4,000 satellite and rocket wrecks in Earth orbit, and about 6,000 space debris can be seen and tracked. There are more than 200,000 pieces of space junk with a diameter of more than one centimeter. Most of these objects travel at a speed of more than 20,000 km/h. These objects in Earth orbit pose a constant threat to the safety of the satellite itself, the space shuttle and the International Space Station.
People's Network-Japan's "Cosmic Combat Team" was formally established and will share information with the US space forces.
