China People's Liberation Army Special Forces is considered as one of the "new" forces with priority development. Dennis blasco, a former American military attache in China, wrote an article entitled "PLA Special Forces: Organization, Mission and Training", saying that the first batch of PLA special forces was formed after the 199 1 Gulf War, and its predecessor was an earlier scout force.

By the end of 1990s, it was estimated that all seven military regions had army special operations brigades or special reconnaissance brigades with a population of about 1 000. The special brigade carries out training in aircraft landing, skydiving and diving, and actively cooperates with the air force and navy. Amphibious combat capability has been greatly improved, and more than 60 new tactics have been explored, such as three-dimensional strike, special rescue, armed parachuting in complex terrain at night, and underwater infiltration.
