How to break through the bottleneck of photography?
The photos are all the same, and there is no breakthrough for a long time. Then you may need something to stimulate your creativity. Photographer Todd Vorenkamp believes that perhaps limitation itself is the best stimulus, and the focus of practice is not the task, but the interest and fun. So, when you encounter a bottleneck in photography, try the following 12 exercise, which may open a new door for you.

Two trips

First, go back and forth without a camera. During this journey, you must observe and find a suitable place and angle for taking pictures. Then, when you go out for the second time, take a photo with your camera. This careful and slow reciprocating process will make you discover more.

crossroads

Put the subject in the four corners of the picture so as to take four different photos. If you can shoot in a different position, repeat it.

Nine elements

Shoot the following 9 elements in one place, whether it is a street corner, a park or anywhere: light, shadow, line, shape, shape/shape, texture, color, size and depth. ...

Additional: Focus, hue, light texture, pattern distribution, blank space changed from one to ten. Take 10 unique/abstract photos of the same small object. The smaller the object, the more challenging it is.

12 abstract works

Shooting 12 an abstract form of an ordinary object, you can use different lenses according to the size of the object, which will give you a deeper understanding of a thing.

Exercise in box 24

Stand in a fixed position, don't move, and then take 24 different photos. You may not get the photo of 12, but you can tap your potential.

Non-selfie "selfie"

It is not an ordinary selfie, but an effort to put yourself in the image, and it is a meaningful and thoughtful way.

step number

On the journey of walking and patting, I estimate that every few more steps will stop filming, and the world will always have a new perspective because of taking a few more steps.

change

Shoot different types of objects. If you often take indoor portraits, try street shooting this weekend; If you often shoot architecture, you can try sports photography.

Shoot a roll of film

When shooting with a digital camera, you can only press the shutter 24 or 36 times, so you will think more and observe more before shooting.

Custom restriction

The restrictions that can be considered include: a fixed-focus lens, a place, black-and-white photography, time limit, manual mode limit, all overexposure (or vice versa), sitting and shooting, only shooting things overhead/underfoot, no people/buildings in the composition, filling the composition, leaving more than three quarters of the blank space ... It is important to keep trying new things.

Draw lots for matching

Write a bunch of words on a pile of notes, and then draw lots to see what you get and shoot. Blue, circle, soft focus, reflection, shallow depth of field, action, happiness, sound, blur and so on.

The focus of practice is not to make you have higher skills, but to stimulate your creativity, break the old framework and break through your own bottleneck. The important thing is, just for fun!

Generally speaking, the pursuit of full focal length, the greater reason is that I don't know what I need, I don't know what I want to buy a camera for, which has become the biggest waste of buying equipment. Facing the problem of "what to do", I mainly boil it down to five aspects: scenery, humanities (tourism), portraits, macro and wildlife.

1, scenery

This theme is loved by many cinematographers, and it was here that I began to learn photography. There are also many heroes in this theme, that is, there are heroes' comments on this theme: Just like China people play table tennis, everyone can play a few times, but there are few experts. I quite agree with this statement, but it doesn't mean that ordinary people don't have to be involved. After all, our slogan is "Just have fun". Through the appreciation of several heroic scenery PP, I personally feel that it is very advantageous to use wide angle or super wide angle. Although it is also useful for telephoto, it is still a minority. Of course, if you are still paying attention to the clarity of this theme, then you should not entertain in the specification of 135. This is another kind. On this issue, a great hero said: If you have a little understanding, go straight to Hasselblad, and go straight to 8X 10 without detours! This is also the limitation of 135 specification, that is, in some scenes several meters away, the side length should be greater than 1.5 meters to distinguish them, which is the advantage of large format. However, the basic requirement for the scenery is: "a vast world with a panoramic view!" So, if you decide on this theme, wide angle and super wide angle are the best parts of your equipment.

2. Humanities (Tourism)

In this theme, we should look at things from a standard perspective, without exaggeration or deliberate description. Generally speaking, it is to tell ordinary stories from an ordinary perspective to express extraordinary connotations. So the standard lens has become the first choice, which also includes the standard zoom lens. The investment in this area should naturally be focused. Generally speaking, the standard range is between 24-70mm focal length, 24-70mm is the beginning of ultra-wide angle, exaggerating the subject, and 70 mm is the beginning of medium focus, deliberately describing the subject, so 24-70 mm is the most suitable for this category, and tourism photography is also included.

3. Portrait

This is the most expensive of the conventional themes. He needs to achieve a shallow depth of field and a wide angle of view on the premise of clarity, and often needs to pursue a fixed-focus lens with a super-large aperture, which is also the highest requirement for equipment. For the case that the characters are absolutely prominent and the subject can't be changed, the pursuit of equipment will reach the top level, and several famous mirrors are needed to separate the characters from the environment with a large aperture. But when you have many shots, you find that one or two really suit you. As for what to use, I don't think anyone can answer. Here's another quote from the Great Xia: No one can tell what lens to shoot a beautiful woman with, just as no one can answer what a beautiful woman is! And I once stood on the shoulders of giants and started this sentence: "No one can tell what equipment to shoot people with, just as no one can answer who looks good."

4. Macro instruction

If you are curious about the micro-world, congratulations, you have chosen a relatively cheap theme. Usually, photography between 1X-5X is called macro photography, and photography over 5X is called macro photography, so there should not be too many people involved in this major. Macro is cheap for three main reasons: on the one hand, there are many ways to get the effect of 1: 1 or above, among which there are many cheap choices, such as close-up ring, close-up mirror and anti-ring. Many accessories can be bought for 30 to 40 yuan, and other equipment can even be obtained by DIY, and there are many online. On the other hand, resource allocation is simple. Under the condition of a fuselage, a tourist lens, a macro lens, a flash and a tripod, the whole personal photography system can be basically completed, and even a professional macro lens is not needed, but a cheap fixed-focus lens can be selected and realized by reverse connection. For the fuselage, the best choice is 1.5 or 1.6 or twice the high pixel APS-C fuselage. This is because the lens on the APS-C fuselage has a longer focal length (easy to distribute light) and a larger depth of field than the Quan Huafu fuselage with conversion coefficient under the same magnification. But at the same focal length, you can get a larger magnification (Quan Huafu 1: 1 can shoot objects with a size of 4cm, APS-C can shoot objects with a size of 2.5cm), and then you can get a larger magnification by cropping large pixels. In the third aspect, the problem of "no weak travel in macro" is not perfect after use, and it is summarized as "no weak travel in close range"! No matter how weak the lens is, it also has extraordinary performance at close range. Just like EF 50mm f 1.8 and EF 35mm f2. When shooting scenes 3 meters away, the performance and reliability of these two lenses are questionable. When using high-end lenses with the same specifications (different maximum aperture), it feels like they can be far or near, so I come to a conclusion that the fundamental difference between a good lens and a bad lens lies in whether it is an all-round player, which can eliminate weather interference factors and shoot far and near scenes. I hope my conclusion is correct, and I hope that when you talk about XX lens, you should not always show it with close-up PP, which can't explain the true strength of a lens. In the final analysis, on the macro theme, the imaging difference between the original factory and the deputy factory with the same specifications is not very big. The lens of Canon EF 100mm f2.8 is very good. As for 180, it depends on whether you are a bug agent team. In contrast, a macro lens of about 100mm is more suitable for daily use. It can shoot bolder, slightly larger insects, flowers and plants, or some sketches (small scenes on the table), and then multiply them by the conversion coefficient, which will give full play to the macro function.

5. Wild animals

If you want to shoot birds, buy a cannon first. If you want to participate in this theme, everything will be the top, the top fuselage and the cannon lens. Someone asked me if I could buy an EF 400mm f2.8 L IS lens, a 450D body with a handle and a lossless 1.6 side magnifying glass. My explanation is: can the 450D see the viewfinder 50 meters away? Furthermore, even if the 450D has a 1D focusing system, can the dual batteries (handles) of the 450D drive the 428 giant USM motor and shake it in time? How is the power of 450D compared with 1D? Even if the work done is the same, how long will it take? I used 1D Mark II, 24-70mm f2.8 F2.8,550ex to take more than eight days 1300 photos, and I used half of the battery power, but I used the same camera, using an EF 600mm f4 L IS lens, and it was dead after more than half a day. Of course, I haven't touched this topic, and I have no experience to introduce, so I won't teach fish to swim in front of heroes who haven't been in the artillery regiment.
