In the field of industrial automation, rotary encoder can be used to measure angle, position, speed and angular velocity. Using rack, measuring wheel and constant force aperture instrument, the moving position of straight line can be measured.
Rotary encoder can convert mechanical input into electrical signal, which is processed by counter, tachometer, programmable logic controller (such as PLC) and industrial computer.
Incremental encoder provides a fixed number of pulses in one rotation, and the speed is calculated by the number of pulses measured in unit time. In order to measure the angle and position, counting usually starts from an initial reference point.
The dual-channel output encoder has two signals with 90-degree phase difference, which enables the controller to determine the rotation direction and realize the position measurement function in two directions.

An absolute encoder can provide an absolute code value for each axis position. Especially in the position control, the absolute encoder lightens the calculation task of the controller and reduces the cost of other additional input components.
In addition, after starting the power supply or power failure, the current accurate position can be obtained without reference to the drive. Parallel encoders transmit data through several power lines, while serial encoders transmit data through standard interfaces and protocols.
