Emperor Yang Di was actually an excellent man. Sui dynasty, the country was rich and strong. In fact, the prosperity of the Tang Dynasty was also contributed by the Sui Dynasty. Twenty years after the founding of the Tang Dynasty, the things left by the Sui Dynasty have not been used up. The so-called chastity rule, if it weren't for the strong state treasury, would they do it?
When Yang Guang was appointed as the secretariat of Yangzhou, he relied on his own talents to win over a large number of Jiangnan scholars and made great contributions to the cultural exchanges between the North and the South. The unification of the Sui Dynasty was also supported by scholars in the south of the Yangtze River, which eliminated the boundary between the north and the south.
As for the Grand Canal, the cultural and economic center at that time had moved to the south, and the Grand Canal was dug to transport economic materials between the north and the south. If it didn't work, why did the Yuan Dynasty dig further? Some people say that Yang Guang dug the canal to see the beautiful women in the south of the Yangtze River, thinking that he was rich in the world. As long as he gives the order, aren't all the beautiful women in the world his? Why bother?
I still think that sentence of Lu Xun is very reasonable (although I don't like Lu Xun). He said that a dynasty has existed for a long time, and with a dynasty, there are more saints, because all the historians who write history are the historians of this dynasty, and most of them sing praises. However, a dynasty existed for a short time, so there are probably no good people, because the historians of his dynasty wrote history. How can they have good words? There are not many people like Sima Qian after all.
We can almost say that most of what Qin Shihuang did was not to burn books to bury Confucianism; We can also say that most of what Emperor Yang Di did was done by Emperor Taizong, but the Zhenguan era of Emperor Taizong was far less prosperous than that of his early career. However, both Qin Shihuang and Emperor Taizong have the reputation of "the first emperor through the ages", while Yang Di has fallen into a notoriety reviled by the world.
We can't imagine that if Yang Di died a few years earlier and Qin Shihuang and Emperor Taizong lived a few more years, their historical evaluations would be lost one by one, but we can re-study Yang Di and give him justice.
After reading Sui Shu, Old Books of the Tang Dynasty and many other materials in this field, I really want to make a comparison between Emperor Taizong and Yang Di. One is called "the Emperor of Extremely Bright" and the other is called "the Emperor of Extremely Evil".
Emperor Taizong's literacy is even worse. Li Shimin's population never reached the level of Yang Guang's period, and it was not until the Kaiyuan period of Emperor Xuanzong of Tang Dynasty that it was on an equal footing with Yang Guang's great cause! The cultivated land area is only one third of Daye's, and even smaller! What is the small-scale peasant economy in China? It's population and cultivated land! ! These Li Shimin are much worse than Yang Guang, and the so-called rule of Zhenguan is far less prosperous than the great cause of the year! Please look at the specific data below.
In the past five years, Yang Guang personally presided over the huge project of the Grand Canal. The National Library has a collection of 370,000 books, the highest in China, and the imperial examination system was formally established. The territory of the Sui Dynasty was 590 counties, 1255 counties, with 8.9 million households controlled by the imperial court and a population of 46.03 million. It is 9300 li long from east to west and 148 15 li long from north to south. "Zi Tong Zhi Jian" said: "The prosperity of the Sui family is extremely here."
Li Shimin's "The Rule of Zhenguan": "The amount of land reclamation in Zhenguan era is only one-third less than that in Sui Dynasty, and the household registration in Zhenguan seventeen years is less than three million, less than half of that in Daye." History as a Mirror: "(eleven years of Zhenguan) Therefore, the land of the Tang Dynasty is bordered by the sea in the east, Yanqi in the west, Lin Yi in the south and desert in the north, all of which are states and counties, with a length of 9,510 miles from east to west and 1,918 miles from north to south. In the eleventh year of Emperor Taizong's Zhenguan, the territory was 9,510 miles from east to west and 9,918 miles from north to south. (95 10 times 109 18 is equal to 103830 108) Yang Di the Great's five-year territory is 9300 Li, north and south 148 15 Li. (9300 times 148 15 equals 137779500) Five years of Sui Daye 13779500 eleven years of Bitang Zhenguan 103830 108, with a large territory of 33944.
You can also make a comparison in personal morality, and there are many similarities between the two. Yang guang killed his father (so far there is no specific historical fact to explain, many scholars have doubts), and Li Shimin confined his father Tang gaozu to death! ! Yang Guang killed the third brother of the rebellion, but did not kill the fourth and fifth brothers of the rebellion. He even allowed his father and son to get together, or took them to protect the son of the third brother Yang Jun, but it is an indisputable fact that Li Shimin killed his own brother Prince and Qi Wang Yuanji! He robbed the third brother's wife, became his own concubine, and even killed a baby! What's the difference between this and Yang Guang playing with his father's concubine, Mrs. Xuanhua? Isn't Wu Mei of Emperor Taizong also married as a queen by his son Li Zhi?
It is said that Emperor Taizong was good at coachable, and the story of Emperor Taizong and Wei Zhi was widely circulated. What a loyal minister and a wise master! But the end of loyal subjects is sad, but Wei Zhi's tomb was knocked down by Emperor Taizong Li Shimin who took him as a mirror! ! And made Liu Yue kill himself. Liu Yue is famous for his loyalty and outspoken.
The emperor wants to live forever, and he can also make a comparison on asking the alchemist for medicine.
Yang Guang entrusted Pan Dan, a Taoist priest, to prepare the elixir of life, but Pan Dan was executed immediately after proposing to use the boy's bone marrow as medicine.
Li Shimin claimed that he didn't believe in the legend of Taoist immortals becoming immortals. Emperor Taizong once laughed at Qin Shihuang and Liang Wudi for using Dan medicine, and it is the same now. Unexpectedly, he died (committed suicide) after taking medicine to prolong his life and swallow gold.

12. The usurper is his cousin Li Yuan. The slogan of Tang gaozu uprising is to avenge Yang Guang, not to punish him.
Evaluation: tyrants of past dynasties

Twelve, usurped by Wu Mei, one of the youngest wives.
Evaluation: a famous monarch through the ages
This person is usually regarded as a dissolute person.
To tell the truth, as far as women are concerned, he is really too young compared with Emperor Taizong.
Emperor Yang Di had five sons and daughters when he was a * * *, but there were only three reasons for him to be sure.
Emperor Taizong, on the other hand, had forty or fifty children, which could be arranged in a row.
And the emperor Yang Di, no matter how romantic outside, has always loved his Xiao Huanghou.
When two people walk together, ups and downs can definitely be regarded as taking care of each other, with joy and trouble.
Even later, Xiao Huanghou took pains to persuade Yang Di, which really angered him, and Yang Di was not in vain.
Died in Xiao Huanghou's arms,
Xiao Huanghou Yang Guang showed great restraint. After Yang Guang's death, Yu Wenhuaji wanted to possess her, and Xiao Huanghou went through difficulties and obstacles and fled to Turkey with his grandson. After being exiled in a foreign land for more than ten years, he was taken back to Chang 'an by Emperor Taizong and reunited with his family. The affection between her and Yang Di is admirable, second only to Emperor Taizong and his grandson.
But, but ~ ~' Just because Yang Di became the king of national subjugation, people put all the toilets on his head. Right or wrong, it should be his, but in short, he is a heinous tyrant.
In fact, to put it bluntly, Yang Di is a little ambitious, building canals, conquering Korea, and visiting the south of the Yangtze River. Anyway, he is a wheezing savage, just like Mao in the fifties and sixties, which makes people bold and productive.
Emperor Yang Di was like this. As a result, he wanted to do great things, but he didn't dare to understand them, which led the people to rise up. There is no way. I can only blame him for his reckless work and ruining himself.
