Zhang Jian (1May 25th, 853 ——1July 7th 1926), a native of Tongzhou, Jiangsu Province, was a scholar in the late Qing Dynasty, an industrialist, politician and educator in modern China, and advocated "saving the country through industry". 1853 was born in Changle town, Haimen, Jiangsu province. 1894 was the top student in the examination and was awarded the book of Hanlin Academy. 1909 was promoted to the position of Speaker of Jiangsu Consultation Bureau; 19 10 launched a congressional petition; 19 12 drafted the abdication edict and served as the chief industrial officer of the provisional government of the Republic of China; 19 13 served as chief industrial and commercial officer and agriculture and forestry officer of Beiyang government for three years. He founded more than 20 enterprises and more than 370 schools in his life, which made valuable contributions to the rise of modern national industries and the development of education in China, and was called "the first industrialist". 1July 926 17 died at the age of 73. "I would rather be a useful thing than a shameful official with eight lives and nine lives" is a portrayal of his life.
