Omar D. Kouatly, Technical Manager of Microsoft Operations Manager 2005
Interview with Mr. Omar D. Kouatly, technical manager of Microsoft Operations Manager (MOM) 2005 at Microsoft Technology Education 2004 Beijing Conference.
Catfish: Omar D. Cuyatri, I'm glad you can accept my interview. When will Microsoft officially announce the MOM2005 plan?
Omar: Hehe. I didn't expect to meet Jeffery when I first came to China. The situation is this: At the 2004 Microsoft Management Summit in March, Microsoft revealed its computer management plan, which is based on the company's "dynamic system plan". Its original intention is to increase the manageability of the company's products and help enterprises manage the whole life cycle of applications. This year, the main management software that Microsoft will release is the next important upgrade of Microsoft Operation Manager, called MOM 2005. It mainly increases the active monitoring function, better scalability, and interoperability with third-party solutions under non-Windows platforms.
Catfish: Oh. So Mom 2005 is much better than the previous Mom 2000. But also added a lot of functions. So, can you tell me how many companies use MOM in America?
Omar: At MOM2000, there were very few enterprises, about 1 0,000. After MOM was launched in 2005, most enterprises used the software to monitor their networks.
Catfish: I remember in 2000, Mom 2000 was not released. So 200 1 was released using Microsoft's ITG?
Omar: Yes. After MOM 2000 was released on 200 1, Microsoft's own IT department ITG began to deploy and use this software to monitor Microsoft's global IT network.
Catfish: Hehe. I only know a little about my mother. Can you introduce MOM 2005 in detail from all aspects?
Omar: OK. As a part of Microsoft's overall management strategy, MOM is mainly aimed at the management of PCs and servers under the Windows platform. MOM also provides special service validity event handling. By responding to notifications generated at a specific time, such as system problems or failures, you can see the operation of all coquettish independent systems running on the network. Stable performance can help you predict load balancing problems and bandwidth requirements; The convenient rule-based response engine allows you to automatically respond in different ways according to different situations.
One of the most commendable features of MOM is its expansibility. Since the initial version of MOM, administrators have been supported to quickly configure servers to accomplish specific tasks through management packs. For example, MOM itself has a management package for Windows Server system products, such as Windows Server 2003 and Microsoft IIS. You can also purchase additional management packages from Microsoft or third-party vendors, so that MOM can be integrated with various server software systems. MOM2005 extends these functions in several core areas.
Active monitoring and response function. MOM2005 includes a new operation console, which provides a state recognition user interface (UI) for actively monitoring the overall operation, performance and reliability of the system. You can write scripts to automatically respond to system problems, or you can use the built-in rule wizard, which optimizes the products you monitor.
Catfish: In addition to these functions, is there a low-profile version of MOM 2005 similar to the Web version of Windows Server 2003?
Omar: Yes. In addition to the high scalability of Windows Server 2003, MOM2005 also provides a cheap low-end version-MOM 2005 Express. This product contains most of the functions of the high-end brother version, as well as the functions specially designed for the morning environment. These features are all contained in the MOM connector framework, which gives the Web service technology and provides a two-way connection between MOM and the third-party management platform MOM 2005 Reporting, which is a data reporting engine based on Microsoft SQL Server Reporting Service.
Catfish: Oh. So Mom 2005 is really amazing. So when will this software go on the market? Will there be a Chinese version?
Omar: I can only tell you this question. Now Mom 2005 has been compiled. The English, German and Japanese editions will be published in June+10 this year. As for the Chinese version ... (Laughter) Microsoft attaches great importance to the China market, so there will definitely be a Chinese version, about 60 days after the English version is released. And as far as I know, there is a company in China that has helped us test MOM 2005, and it is also a user of MOM 2000, China Petrochemical.
