Zhumadian City has nine counties under its jurisdiction: Queshan County, Biyang County, suiping county County, Xiping County, Shangcai County, runan county County, Pingyu County, Zhengyang County and Xincai County.

Li Si, the prime minister of Qin Dynasty, Huan Kuan, the author of On Salt and Iron, Gan Bao, a strange novelist, Fan Zhen, a great atheist, Yang Jingyu, a famous anti-Japanese national hero, and many other historical celebrities. It is the birthplace of Pangu culture, Liangzhu culture, Chongyang culture, Cheyu culture, Lei Zu culture and iron smelting and sword casting culture. Biyang, Runan, Shangcai, Pingyu and Xiping were respectively named Pangu Holy Land in China, Liangzhu Hometown in China, Chongyang Culture Hometown in China, Cheyu Culture Hometown, Leizu Culture Hometown and Casting Iron and Sword.
At the same time, Zhugou Town, Queshan County, one of the red revolutionary base areas and enjoying the title of "Little Yan 'an", was once the seat of the Central Central Plains Bureau and the Henan Provincial Party Committee. Liu Shaoqi, Li Xiannian and other revolutionaries of the older generation once fought and lived here, and their former site is still well preserved.
