Whether it is selling well or not, car companies seem to be stuck, which is undoubtedly a struggle for living space.
In this case, Great Wall Motor is not idle. In March 10, it held the "Intelligent New Energy Dry Goods Conference", launched a brand-new Hi4 hybrid system, and directly shouted the slogan that electric four-wheel drive sells two-wheel drive prices, and electric four-wheel drive is more fuel-efficient than two-wheel drive. Judging from the current situation, once this system goes on the market, it will definitely be a blood shed.
What is the secret of the Great Wall system? Can it subvert the hybrid market? Let the president show everyone around.
(1) Innovative electric four-wheel drive, subtraction of the Great Wall
In 2022, domestic plug-in hybrid vehicles ushered in an outbreak year. Hybrid cars not only exceeded one million sales for the first time, but also the growth rate of 136.8% was far ahead of other technical routes.
It can be used for both oil and electricity, and it can save fuel without charging, so that hybrid vehicles gradually become "fuel vehicles in the new era". However, there is a surprising problem. Compared with the four-wheel drive with pure electric vehicles everywhere, there are very few four-wheel drive models of hybrid vehicles, which is really a great pity for the consumer experience.
Why is this happening? It is actually determined by the current hybrid system architecture. At present, the most mainstream hybrid system in China is the "two-motor hybrid system", which was first introduced by Honda i-MMD and successfully promoted by BYD DM-i, and then major manufacturers followed suit, which triggered a sales frenzy.
The core of the so-called "double-motor series-parallel system" is double motors+series connection. P 1 motor is responsible for power generation and P3 motor is responsible for driving. Under most working conditions in urban areas, the engine generates power in the high-efficiency range (series state), which ensures a good driving experience (smooth and quiet electric drive) and is extremely energy-saving. At high speed, the engine can also be involved in direct drive and continue to maintain high performance and high efficiency.
But as you can see, this system is not suitable for four-wheel drive by nature. Because if you want a four-wheel drive, you have to add a motor to the rear axle, and you have to transfer energy from the front end to the back end of the car, and the control is more complicated. Therefore, there are very few four-wheel drive hybrid models on the market at present. BYD Tang DM-p and Han DM-p are also selling well, but both of them have reached the level of 300,000, which is really a little worse in terms of cost performance.
Can four-wheel drive be realized without such a high cost? The Great Wall Hi4 gives the answer, that is, "one machine can be used for two purposes".
Under the new Hi4 hybrid architecture, the front axle motor can generate electricity and drive. When energy saving is needed, it can generate electricity and then drive the rear axle motor (excess electricity is charged into the power battery). In this way, the vehicle will enter a two-wheel drive state, but unlike other hybrid systems, the Great Wall Hi4 is a rear drive in a long-distance state, which has better driving stability and handling.

The appearance of the Great Wall Hi4 is likely to push the price of the four-wheel drive hybrid SUV to 654.38+0.5 million, which is the experience of the four-wheel drive and the price of the two-wheel drive mentioned by the Great Wall, which is undoubtedly subversive for the current hybrid car market.
To do this, the Great Wall relies on its own logical closed loop.
The first is the coverage of technology. As we all know, Great Wall is a car company focusing on SUV, and even Haval H6 has become a symbol of high-quality domestic cars. For four-wheel drive technology, SUV is undoubtedly the best carrier, because it needs better passability and disengagement performance than car SUV, and four-wheel drive system has inherent advantages in this respect.
In the field of SUV, the coverage of the Great Wall is very wide. Urban SUVs not only sell well, but also occupy half of the domestic hard-core SUV market. In addition, the Great Wall has also launched a 3/4 scale dog riding series, which can take care of both household use and light off-road ability.
The Great Wall needs SUV, SUV needs four-wheel drive, and the hybrid four-wheel drive technology in the new era needs the Great Wall, which is undoubtedly a natural fit.
The second is the DHT technology of the Great Wall, which will be a perfect complement to the Hi4 technical route.
As mentioned earlier, the front axle motor of the Great Wall integrates the functions of power generation and driving, which means that the driving power of this motor will not be too great. Considering that the generator power of hybrid vehicles is mostly around 60kW, Great Wall has prepared 70kW and 80kW motors, which have made a perfect balance between performance and cost.
However, this design will also bring a problem, that is, if the vehicle is in a state of lack of power (many hybrid cars don't charge at all), the front axle motor can only generate electricity, and the vehicle will always be in a two-wheel drive state. The power of logical closed loop is not uncommon in the automobile market. Once car companies find their own advantages, their opponents will be hard to shake.
A typical example is BMW, which is famous for being good at exploring the potential of engines. In fact, the design of BMW engine is very simple, that is, follow the five words "make great efforts to create miracles". High explosive pressure design, simple and direct power output. Coupled with ZF's 8AT gearbox, the outstanding thing is that the shift is fast and smooth and the acceleration is fast and linear. Simply put, it is cool. These characteristics are perfectly integrated with BMW's brand image, forming a deep moat.
Another example is Toyota's TNGA architecture, which has achieved better maneuverability and safety, while successfully reducing costs, and can continue to evolve, making almost all opponents afraid to speak. If it weren't for the sudden electrification, we would continue to see Toyota hang all its opponents.
Of course, BYD today is also a bit interesting. Its DM-i hybrid power system is the simplest dual-motor hybrid power system, which combines the cost control ability of the whole industry chain and is like a duck to water in the field of electrification. And high efficiency has promoted the further improvement and promotion of the industrial chain.
Facts have proved that once the logic closed loop is realized, it will promote the rapid development of automobile enterprises.
The Hi4 four-wheel drive hybrid technology of Great Wall also shows good potential. The cost can be shared through the leading position of Great Wall in SUV field, and the advantages of four-wheel drive can promote the sales of SUV, while DHT system can not meet the shortcomings of dual-motor electric four-wheel drive.
If we can really sell the price of four-wheel drive and two-wheel drive as promised by the Great Wall, it will undoubtedly set off a market frenzy.

We can imagine that the Great Wall will launch such a car. The most proud Great Wall Haval brand, with a big five-seat design of about 4.7 meters, has an acceleration of about 6.5 seconds per 100 kilometers (double motors+engines synchronously exert power), and its fuel consumption is about 5.0L/ 100km, and it also has its own four-wheel drive.
