Chongqing belongs to the western war zone. Western Theater: The former Chengdu Military Region and Lanzhou Military Region (excluding Yunnan and Guizhou provinces) were merged to lead and command the armed forces of eight provinces and cities, namely Shaanxi, Gansu, Ningxia, Qinghai, Xinjiang, Sichuan, Tibet and Chongqing. The office is located in Chengdu, Sichuan.

As the only highest joint operational command organization in this strategic direction, the theater performs the joint operational command function according to the requirements of combining peacetime and wartime, normal operation, specialization and high efficiency, and undertakes the mission of responding to security threats, maintaining peace, containing wars and winning wars in this strategic direction.
