Help me. Why Liang Qichao advocated the "revolution in poetry"
As a leading figure in the Reform Movement of 1898, Liang devoted himself to social improvement, but also paid close attention to the improvement of literature. One or two years before the Reform Movement of 1898, he put forward the slogan of poetic revolution, and tried to write "new poetry" with his comrades, taking the poetic revolution as a breakthrough to promote the literary revolution and echo the political reform, thus promoting the progress of the whole society. Of course, there is still a process from understanding reform to proposing poetry revolution. 70 years before the Reform Movement of 1898, the intelligentsia, especially the reformists, praised new learning and practical learning many times, thinking that the application of western learning was the most fundamental for Qiang Bing, a rich country, and literature was empty and useless. Liang Qichao put forward the theory of "literature is new to the people and saves the country", emphasizing the social function of literature and holding that literature can also serve the purpose of saving the country and strengthening the country. "Poetic revolution" is not only the need of the Reform Movement, but also the result of Huang Zunxian's modern progressive poetic trend of thought. Under the guidance of Huang Zunxian's new poems, most of the new poems written by Liang Qichao, Xia Cengyou, Tan Sitong, etc. at the beginning are as follows: "The theoretical outline is miserable, Buddhism is better than the evil gate", but "the accumulation of new words is a revolution" (Khad and evil gate are transliterated, referring to the Indian hierarchy and the British Parliament). After the failure of the Reform Movement of 1898, Liang Qichao continued to advocate the poetry revolution when he was desperate for Japan, which made the poetry revolution a step forward.
