However, due to Yuan Shikai's autocratic power, he tried to restore the monarchy, so the trend of respecting Confucius and restoring ancient ways was even worse than that of the previous generation. Yuan Shikai only achieved the goal of imperial system by "respecting Confucius and reading classics" and excluded Confucianism. Therefore, at that time, Zun Kong's retro reading of classics had a strong "reactionary" color, which was against the trend. His respect for Confucius only emphasized loyalty and obedience as a slave philosophy. Therefore, Wu Yu and others shouted "Down with Kongjiadian", which was aimed at the counter-current of respecting Confucius' retro ways and was the basis of criticizing China's feudal autocracy. Note that there is still a difference between "Confucianism" and Confucianism of Confucius. Confucianism is actually the epitome of absolutism, which was moved aside by rulers of past dynasties attached to Confucius. Without touching the foundation of Confucianism, the foundation of feudal culture will not be mobilized. China's political, economic, social, cultural and military changes will encounter great obstacles if they are not thoroughly changed in the ideological and cultural fields.

However, the leaders of the New Culture Movement took western radical democratic thoughts and Marxist thoughts as weapons. Many people emphasize the advanced nature of "western learning", but inevitably despise or even feel inferior to "middle school", resulting in different degrees of cultural paranoia. There is too much affirmation of western culture and too much one-sided negation of eastern culture.

Today, we are in the primary stage of socialism, and we want to achieve great prosperity and development of socialist culture. Adhere to the leading position of Marxism in the ideological and cultural fields, and adhere to the China-oriented Marxism to guide the cultural development of China. Develop the advanced socialist culture of popular science in China. Therefore, it is necessary to inherit the excellent traditional culture of China, including the critical inheritance of Confucianism. We should adopt the Marxist method, take the essence of Confucius and Confucianism and discard its dross, so that China's traditional culture can serve the socialist modernization. Learning the outstanding achievements of human civilization, whether in the East or the West, ancient and modern, Chinese and foreign, requires dialectical learning, rational analysis and grasp.
