What is the future development direction of cloud computing?
According to the White Paper on Cloud Computing Development (2020), in the next decade, cloud computing will still usher in the next golden decade and enter an inclusive development period. First, with the advancement of new infrastructure, cloud computing will accelerate the application landing process and achieve rapid development in different fields such as Internet, government affairs, finance, transportation, logistics and education. Second, under the background of global digital economy, cloud computing has become an inevitable choice for enterprises to digitally transform, and the process of enterprises going to the cloud will be further accelerated. Thirdly, the emergence of COVID-19 epidemic accelerated the landing of SaaS services such as telecommuting and online education, and promoted the rapid development of cloud computing industry. The six trends of cloud computing industry development are as follows:

Trend 1: Cloud technology is changing from extensive to refined.

"Cloud technology has changed from extensive to fine, and the technical system is becoming more and more mature."

With the cloud native container, micro-service, serverless and other technologies getting closer to the application layer, the granularity of resource scheduling, business coupling, management efficiency and effective utilization rate have been greatly improved.

In the digital transformation of enterprises, the digital intermediate platform plays a very important role, and the cloud native platform is precisely the "base" of the digital intermediate platform. It can be said that the digital intermediate platform is the best practice of fine landing by using cloud native technology. At the same time, with the development of cloud nativity becoming more and more sophisticated, the security requirements of native cloud are becoming more and more "sophisticated".

Trend 2: Cloud demand shifts from IaaS to SaaS.

"At present, there is a gap of 3-5 years between domestic SaaS services and foreign countries, but it is precisely because of this gap and the' drive' of the epidemic that the domestic market is ready to go." Some "clues" can also be found from the situation of enterprises going to the cloud in recent years: although there are no SaaS unicorn enterprises in China at present, many industry customers will choose industry-related SaaS services because they are not particularly familiar with basic IT, and domestic sub-sectors have strong demand for SaaS services.

After the outbreak of COVID-19 epidemic, more and more enterprises have developed the habit of using online applications, such as epidemic prevention and control, online education, video conferencing and so on, which are all SaaS services. Therefore, in the post-epidemic era, SaaS will improve the utilization rate by increasing customer stickiness and professionalism.

"At the same time, SaaS, IaaS and ISV service providers will cooperate in depth to form complementary advantages, open up the upstream and downstream of the industrial chain, and build a prosperous and harmonious SaaS service ecosystem."

"In the future, enterprise-level SaaS services will be industrialized, platformized and intelligent."

Trend 3: Cloud architecture extends from the center to the edge.

"With the development of edge computing, distributed cloud has become a new form of cloud computing, and the edge layout has also become the focus."

Distributed cloud can be divided into central cloud, regional cloud and edge cloud according to different deployment locations, scales and service capabilities. The cloud collaboration platform formed by the three can empower major industries more openly. At present, telecom operators are using 5G base stations to lay out distributed architectures. In the future, increasing the ability of cloud edge collaboration and edge empowerment will bring more dividends to the development of cloud computing in the industry.

Although telecom service providers and Internet service providers have different layout paths in cloud collaboration, they will eventually bring computing power dividends to the industry. From the perspective of specific industries, the big media industry first benefits from the development of distributed cloud, and cloud edge collaboration will also play an important role in the three major industries: industry, transportation and agriculture. For example, cloud collaboration will realize the integration of traditional industry and informatization, help traditional agriculture transform into digitalization, intelligence and networking, and help traditional transportation transform into smart transportation.

"Cloud collaboration makes cloud computing more inclusive for the empowerment of various industries and extends computing power to the edge."

Trend 4: Cloud security changes from the outside to the inside.

"Native cloud security promotes the deep integration of security and cloud."

Compared with the past, the native cloud security platform gradually extends the security capability from production to development and testing, and integrates it into the whole process from design to operation, providing users with more secure cloud services, while the native cloud security products are gradually embedded from the original plug-in, giving full play to the data value of the cloud platform, and conducting security situational awareness and cloud access security proxy.

Trend 5: Cloud applications penetrate into industrial production from the Internet.

"Digital transformation promotes the penetration of cloud applications from the Internet to industrial production, and the traditional information infrastructure needs to be upgraded to digital infrastructure."

According to the survey of ICT Institute, cloud applications are increasingly widespread, and it is infiltrating from the consumer Internet to the industrial Internet.

However, what needs to be seen is that at present, in traditional industries, the traditional information infrastructure is not really digitized. Li Wei believes that there are two main reasons: First, there are pain points in the technical architecture. For example, the data in cross-platform heterogeneous environment is difficult to get through, the carrying capacity of high concurrent and unpredictable access requirements is limited, and the agile delivery requirements of upper-level applications are difficult to support; Second, IT management has pain points. For example, IT is difficult to meet multi-scene and multi-level IT service requirements, and the ability level of IT management and service elements (technology, platform, process, management, organizational structure and operation system) is uneven.

In order to cope with the above pain points, the industry is accelerating the iterative upgrade of enterprise technology architecture and promoting the traditional digital transformation. At the same time, the role of cloud management platform has become increasingly prominent. Li Wei introduced that in this context, ICT Institute will soon launch the Enterprise Digital Infrastructure Cloud Management and Service Operation Capability Maturity Model (IOMM), which will "pulse" the digital infrastructure capability of enterprise digital transformation from six aspects: service productization, capability platformization, lean management, operation systematization and data value.

Trend 6: Cloud positioning is both a basic resource and an infrastructure operating system.

"The new infrastructure has promoted the expansion of cloud positioning from basic resources to infrastructure operating systems."

In the past, the industry thought that cloud computing was a virtualized resource. However, in the new infrastructure framework, cloud computing is increasingly playing the role of infrastructure management and scheduling, and it is an important platform for connecting the preceding with the following and comprehensively improving network and computing capabilities.

The definition of new infrastructure by the National Development and Reform Commission includes three aspects: converged infrastructure, information infrastructure and innovative infrastructure. Among them, information infrastructure includes computing infrastructure, new technology infrastructure and network infrastructure, and cloud computing is a link in the new technology infrastructure.

"If the information infrastructure is regarded as a computer, then cloud computing is the operating system of this computer." As a part of the information infrastructure, cloud computing not only provides virtualized resources, but also takes cloud nativity as the technical system to build an overall architecture of high-speed global data interconnection and full coverage of computing power, and comprehensively improves the level of network and computing power.
