Man can conquer nature, right?
Wrong. Personally, I think, of course, most people agree that man and nature should live in harmony. The slogan "Man can conquer nature" searched by Baidu is as fashionable as today's "awe of nature", and almost no one doubted its correctness in the Great Leap Forward era. Until today, we have suffered many setbacks before we realize the one-sidedness of the thought that "man can conquer nature". Today, when our public opinion unanimously denounces the slogan "Man can conquer nature", we cannot absolutely deny that "Man can conquer nature". Everything in the world survives and develops in competition with other creatures in nature. Any species without the courage and strength to overcome its competitors will undoubtedly be eliminated by nature. As one of the creatures, human beings have some confidence and ideas to overcome all natural competitors, which is actually a desire of "man can conquer nature". Is it wrong to have such a wish? On the contrary, it is precisely because of this desire that we have the premise and motivation for human survival and development. Of course, it is wrong to think that human beings can finally "conquer nature", and they will make mistakes and fail. At this point, at least one thing is certain, that is, human beings cannot be eternal, but nature will be eternal. From this point of view, there will never be an ending of "man can conquer nature". However, when criticizing the view that "man can conquer nature", we can't deny that "the history of mankind is a history from the realm of necessity to the realm of freedom." Although, we will never reach that "completely free kingdom". However, we must not deny the direction of human progress and give up human efforts to move towards the kingdom of freedom. Therefore, although it is wrong to say that "man can conquer nature", there is nothing wrong with the desire of "man can conquer nature" to some extent. Similarly, for the other extreme of the relationship between man and nature, we can also say that the slogan of "reverence for nature" is wrong, but it is necessary to maintain proper reverence for nature. We agree with the statement that "we should maintain proper respect for nature". The original intention of "proper awe" should be interpreted as the following three points: 1. For the sustainable development and utilization of nature, we should protect nature; 2. We should follow the laws of nature in human activities to transform nature; 3. The process of human understanding the laws of nature is endless. Dialectically speaking, maintaining moderate awe does not mean that we must fear nature; The determination and desire to conquer nature does not mean that the view that "man can conquer nature" is correct. It should be said that it is correct to have the determination and desire to overcome nature and maintain a moderate awe of nature. However, absolute "reverence for nature" is an extreme attitude, which goes against the slogan of science, just like "man can conquer nature". Of course, our public thinking and public opinion propaganda have an inertia. For a period of time, people are usually used to accepting a certain statement or preferring a certain vocabulary. In the past, we often worshipped the slogan "Man can conquer nature". Now when we reflect on the scientific nature of this slogan, we also publicize the content of "fear of nature" too much. In fact, we (especially scientists) should dialectically analyze and treat these slogans. It should be noted that in dealing with the relationship between man and nature, "fear of nature" and "man can conquer nature" are both extreme slogans. To learn to analyze problems dialectically and comprehensively, we should not judge things only by the frequency of a noun appearing in the news media.
