Continue the motto
Bai Juyi
Cui's motto is what I admire. Although it has not been done, it is often read by libraries.
However, there seems to be something unfinished in the meantime, because it continues to be the motto cloud:
Don't be greedy for wealth, don't worry about poverty. Ask yourself what you think, and you will be satisfied.
Don't be sad about injury, and don't be happy about fame. If you care about yourself, you will be ruined.
No pride, no shame. Achromatic color, self-respect.
Wandering and evil are separated, and life is separated from neighbors. There are trade-offs and no relatives.
Repair the outside and repair the inside, rest and be true. Nourish the inner heartlessness, and move it with benevolence and righteousness.
A journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step and dust begins with a mountain. My road is the same, and my line is getting more and more expensive.
Dare not treat others, talk about gentry. Lifelong consciousness, physical death.
After Kun Gou, he is not my son.
Translation:
I admire Cui's motto. Although I don't practice all of them, I often write them down and hang them on the wall at home. But I always feel that there seems to be something unfinished in it, so I continued to write this motto: don't envy wealth and don't worry about poverty. You should ask yourself what your moral character is, it's not worth mentioning.
Don't be sad when you hear slander, and don't be happy when you hear praise. You should look at how you are doing. Neither slander nor praise is worth talking about. Don't be complacent and look down on others, so as to stay away from other people's insults; Don't flatter yourself and beg to serve others, so that you can respect yourself. Stay away from evil and live honestly; There is a way to get it, but there is no way to get close.
Cultivate external and internal, and keep harmony and innocence silently; Self-cultivation should not leave out the exterior, and a person's behavior must follow the principle of courtesy, justice and shame. A journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step, and the peak is also formed by dust accumulation; The same is true of our moral quality. In order to realize it, it is important that we update ourselves every day.
I dare not ask others for anything, as long as I always keep it in mind! I will encourage myself all my life and pass it on to future generations after death; If the descendants violate him, they are not worthy to be my descendants!
Extended data:
As a supplement to Cui's motto, Bai Juyi's inscription is a masterpiece. The two works complement each other before and after, and they are catchy to read, exciting to remember and profound in meaning. Cui Gong pays attention to the restraint and cultivation of personal behavior.
Bai Gong focuses on the rest and tempering of personal inner moral world. They all have a common moral standard, that is, "benevolence, love, courtesy and righteousness". This is the essence of China's traditional culture "the way to be human".
According to relevant records, Cui's motto consists of 20 sentences, and the full text is reproduced as follows:
No one is short and no one is long. Be careful when giving and don't forget when receiving. The reputation of the world is insufficient, and benevolence is the discipline. What's the harm in denigrating mediocrity? Don't make the name too true, and keep the holy land of fools. Nirvana is precious, and warmth contains light.
The weak are born to be human, and the old commandments are strong. It is difficult to measure one's ambition when walking. Be careful what you eat and drink, and the contented will always be happy. Perseverance will last a long time.
Translation:
Don't dwell on the shortcomings of others, and don't brag about your own advantages. Don't think about being nice to others, and don't forget to accept others' kindness. The praise of the world is not to be envied, as long as you take kindness as your code of action.
Judge whether your heart is in line with benevolence before you act. What harm will other people's slanderous remarks do to yourself? Don't let your reputation surpass reality. Sages appreciate stupidity. The quality of white is precious, even if it penetrates into black, it will not change color.
There is no light on the surface, but there is light inside. Laozi once warned that weakness is a sign of vitality, while strength is close to death. Vulgar people are strong-willed, and the disaster is even greater after a long time.
A gentleman should be cautious in speaking, frugal in eating and drinking, and satisfied with his feet in order to get rid of the ominous. Practice for a long time, and it will smell good over time.
Cui said:
