The Northern Song Dynasty poet Su Dongpo is one of my favorite poets. His poems are full of philosophy and beautiful artistic conception.
One of my favorite poems of his is: "Abbot Monk Wen of Xiuzhou Baoben Zen Monastery"
In a dream in Wanli Mountain, Wu Yinjian had become a child.
Whenever the old people from Shu talk all day long, they feel that the greenery of Emei is gone.
The master has forgotten what the true way is, and all I can do is search for it to no avail.
I will go to the rooftop next year to collect herbs, and I even want to write poems all over eastern Zhejiang.
The first couplet of this poem: In a dream thousands of miles away from home, Wu Yinjian has become a child. The poet felt homesick because the local accent was unforgettable and the nostalgia became even stronger.
Modern Couplet: Every time Shu old people talk all day long, they feel that the greenery of Emei is gone. The poet met an old friend from his hometown and chatted about daily life all day long. Then imagine Emei, the green trees cover the cloud sky.
Neck couplet: The teacher has forgotten the true way, and I have no success except searching for sentences. Su Dongpo wrote this poem to the abbot of the Zen monastery, praising the abbot as a master of Taoism, but the master has forgotten the words. The poet is self-effacing and cannot be compared with the abbot. He works hard to write good poems, but has no other merit.
End couplet: Next year I will go to the rooftop to collect herbs, and I even want to write poems all over eastern Zhejiang. The poet's erudition, heroic spirit, and noble interests are perfectly reflected in these two sentences.
I also fell in love with poetry.
To write a good poem, you must have the pursuit of beauty.
Every time, when I want to compose a poem but have no inspiration at all, I will think of Su Dongpo’s words: “I want to compose poems all over eastern Zhejiang.”
This kind of heroic spirit and broad mind make me yearn for and inspire me.
Su Dongpo is like a good teacher and friend, spanning thousands of years, as if he is in front of you. Read his verses as if he were in your ears. The elegant sentiment deeply infected me.
