Personally, I think proverbs are more formal than ballads. Proverbs are artistic statements that are collectively created by the people, widely circulated, concise, comprehensive and relatively qualitative. They are a regular summary of the people's rich (wisdom) and universal (experience). Proverbs are similar to idioms, but are more colloquial; proverbs include idioms that express humor and irony. . . .
And ballads also originated from the folk and are catchy. But the difference is that folk songs are songs, and the lyrics mainly express people's personal emotions. It indirectly reflects the natural and cultural environment of different periods and is limited by the times.
