In p>1931,

Wolff went to Yale University to study anthropology with E. Sapir, and in 1932, he began to study the Hebrew language of American Indians. In 193s, some papers were published, and the "Sapir

- Wolff Hypothesis" was put forward. In 1956, it was edited by J Carroll and published as Language, Thought and Reality. Ten years after Wolff's death, American scholars became interested in his theory again. In 1953 and 1958, special meetings were held to discuss it.

Wolff believes that language is culture, and culture is expressed in language; Language is the medium of action and action is described in language. As people's behavior system, culture can only exist in people's ideas about the world around them. Only by understanding what these ideas are can we understand what culture is. In his view, from language to culture, from culture to language, from culture to social behavior, from social behavior to culture, these are closed circular tracks, and people can only walk along these tracks and cannot leave it.

P. Wolfson believes that the hypothesis of Wolff has not been completely confirmed after many experiments, but it has not been completely overturned. Language is closely related to culture, but scholars do not admit that language can absolutely determine people's world outlook and thinking methods.
