What are the famous stories of Confucius?

Confucius can be said to be a very influential educator in China and even in the world. His concept of "teaching students in accordance with their aptitude" has been passed down for thousands of years and is still shining today.

His educational stories are basically or mostly from The Analects of Confucius. The other parts of unofficial history are not authoritative enough, and many people don't recognize them. Besides, there are not many parts of unofficial history that focus on education.

However, the most famous story is not in The Analects of Confucius. For example, Two Children Debate on the Day, which was selected as a textbook, comes from Liezi Tangwen. The content of the story, basically known to everyone who went to elementary school, said that Confucius went out one day and saw two children arguing. As a melon eater, Confucius was of course curious and went over to ask the truth. A child said, "I think when the sun just rises, it is closer to people, and it is farther away from people at noon." Another child's opinion is just the opposite, thinking that the sun is far away from people when it just rises, but near people at noon.

The two children gave their own judgments:

One said, "The sun was as big as the hood when it first came out, but it was like a plate at noon. Isn't it small when it is far away and big when it is near?" Another child said, "When the sun just came out, it felt cool, but at noon it was like putting your hand into hot water. Isn't it hot when it is near and cool when it is far away?" Confucius suddenly didn't know how to judge. The two children smiled and said, "Who says you are very wise?"

Another story, which is discussed in San Zi Jing, is, "In the past, Zhong Ni studied under Xiang Tuo, an ancient sage, and was diligent in learning." There are many versions of similar stories, one of which says that once Confucius went out again and saw many children playing on the roadside. Confucius hesitated at that time, so don't be stumped by children this time. He just looked on. Among them, a child named Xiang Tuo was playing the game of building a city alone on the road. Confucius asked his disciples to inquire first, and by the way, told him that the car was going to pass by and let him play.

But Xiang Tuo confidently said to them, "I've only heard of horse-drawn carriages walking around the city, but I haven't heard of the truth of tearing down the city and letting them pass." Confucius listened to the child and decided to test him. Unexpectedly, after many questions and answers, Confucius defeated Chen Lai again. So Confucius said sincerely, "The afterlife is awesome, I am willing to worship you as a teacher." Thus, at the age of seven, Xiang Tuo became the teacher of Confucius, a great sage, and passed down as a much-told story.

After Confucius went out, he was much more humble. Later, he said the well-known saying, "In a threesome, there must be a teacher." These three people refer to the three children mentioned above.
