A brief discussion on hotel classification and the five-star standard promulgated by our country

There are many ways to classify hotels (hotels). For example, classification by construction location, classification by purpose of use, classification by grade. These different categories of development zones are all remarkable. Those classified by location, such as motels in development zones, built next to a gas station and repair shop; those classified by use functions, such as Ibis (IBIS/ACCOR), TEDA Business Hotel, and Jinghua Pengren Hotel Apartments, their purpose of use can be included in Business hotels; as for classification by level, there are TEDA Renaissance Hotel (planned to be five-star), TEDA Center (four-star), and Jinfan Building (three-star). What we want to introduce here is the classification of levels.

Grade division arises from the needs of different consumption levels.

1. Classification of hotel grades

1. The main basis for classification. Internationally, hotels are often divided into grades according to specific conditions such as environmental scale, construction, equipment, facilities, decoration, management, service items, and quality. The star system is a popular classification method in the world, especially in Europe. The higher the star rating, the higher the grade and level of the hotel. Many countries regard five stars (including platinum five stars) as the highest level and give them beautiful logos. For example, the United Kingdom uses roses as its logo. However, no matter how many levels it is divided into, it is a comprehensive standard, and one cannot judge based on just a few or several items.

2. The main contents of grade classification include:

(1) Comfort level. The level of comfort comprehensively reflects the indoor and outdoor environment of the hotel. It includes many aspects, the most important of which is the location environment and garden conditions. Four-star and five-star luxury hotels often choose the best outdoor landscape, beautiful gardens, spacious driveways and parking lots, and convenient outdoor spaces. You can enjoy the surrounding scenery through the windows, and there is a garden for guests to rest and a place for communication. Speaking of this, I thought of two lines from Tang poetry. The poet may have seen the winter snow scene through the window of the inn, so he improvised and wrote the quatrain "The window contains thousands of snows to the west, and the door is docked with ships thousands of miles east of Wu". The hotel should be poetic and picturesque, making guests feel relaxed and happy. Last autumn, when I was standing in the second phase of Pengren Garden, I looked out the window at a meandering flying bridge, and heard the sound of the waterfall. I couldn't help but think of Du Mu's "Long Time" in "A Fang Gong Fu". "The bridge is lying on the waves, what is the dragon without the clouds? If the road is empty, there will be no rainbows." I also rewrote this sentence into a couplet, "The long bridge is lying on the waves, but there are no rainbows, and Kunlun stands tall and magnificent." And asked the old father to make some corrections and then hung it on the building. Some famous quotes that I accidentally recalled from the vitality of architecture later became the driving force and source of my passionate creation (architecture is an art, and real estate development itself is a kind of creation). This shows how important a good environment is to the enjoyment of hotel guests!

(2) Customer investment. In the 1970s, five-star hotels were popular, with investment ranging from US$20,000 to US$55,000 per room (approximately 40 square meters). By the 1980s, each client's investment reached more than $100,000. In the 21st century, with the advancement of science and technology and the improvement of consumption levels, this investment is still rising. At present, the decoration investment for each five-star standard room is RMB 100,000 (excluding facilities and public decoration).

(3) Guest room area. Room size is an important condition for guest room comfort. Countries that implement hierarchical systems have clarified detailed requirements for suites, luxury suites and bathroom areas in relevant regulations.

In short, hotel grades are not very strict on scale, but are very strict on environment, investment, room area and facilities.

2. The newly promulgated classification of national five-star hotels

The "Classification and Classification of Stars for Tourist Hotels" promulgated and implemented by the People's Republic of China and the People's Republic of China on December 1, 2003 "Assessment" (GB/T14308-2003) has relatively detailed divisions and requirements for five-star and platinum five-star (super luxury five-star).

Select the important ones and refine and summarize them. There are several important aspects as follows:

1. Layout and function. Ensure reasonable layout, complete functions, convenient and safe facilities. Layout and functionality should be the most important in the hierarchy. Mr. Liang Sicheng, a leading figure in the field of architecture, said in the preface of "History of Chinese Architecture": "The vertical and horizontal support or connection of the frame is often an organic organization, accompanied by the sharpness of the outline, the distribution of colorful paintings and carvings, and the distribution of door and window details. "Point." Master Liang Sicheng's wise words can be used to understand the layout of the hotel. Layout is often required by function, so I think layout and function should be the most important in hotel classification.

2. Number of customers and standards. The hotel grade does not have high requirements for scale. "At least 40 rooms (suites) are available for rent (that is, available for guest registration)." However, five-star requirements for customers are more detailed, and the 26 items are just right. There are 26 English letters. Many people think that there is not much difference between three-star hotel rooms and four-star and five-star rooms. In fact, you have not heard that my country’s five-star hotels are no different than those abroad. Not so! The reason is that many five-star hotels in China only focus on the appearance and basic configuration of the guest rooms, but ignore environmental protection, noise control, avoidance of harmful substances, cultural taste, communication development, service level, etc. Many important aspects.

3. Network communication system. Five-star hotels require corresponding computer management systems and communication network systems. Several well-known hotels in Binhai New Area have these aspects. The one with better conditions may be Tianbao International Hotel (quasi-five-star). Pengrenyuan Hotel Apartment will make great efforts in this area, develop LAN, VOD on-demand, install sensors to control room temperature and air flow by floor, and the conference room configuration will be the same. 4. Many terms in the five-star standard are about service levels. It is a requirement for a soft environment. In recent years, well-known hotels at home and abroad have made a big fuss around "Personalized Service" and actively improved personalized service and human-centered service. The service is further integrated. In addition, the foreign language proficiency of service staff is required to be able to speak proficiently with guests in daily life, and employees in important positions should have no less than CET-4.

5. .Environment and culture. Most five-star hotels have beautiful gardens, which shape the cultural concept and architectural concept of "Heaven and earth enter my heart, and heaven and earth enter my house". Five-star hotels must be unique in environment and appearance. . Chinese ancient architecture pays great attention to "Feng Shui". The application of Feng Shui theory has become a treasure in the world's cultural library. The "Preface to the Lanting Collection" written by Wang Xizhi of the Jin Dynasty includes "Roading Mountains", "Massive Forests and Bamboos", and "Liu Shangqu". "Water" and other beautiful descriptions of the Orchid Pavilion are amazing. The famous British architect Patrick Abelon once praised Chinese architecture for its emphasis on Feng Shui. He wrote that "the Chinese landscape displayed under Feng Shui is like the one that once existed." Of any wonderful scenery, it may be the most exquisitely constructed.” Dr. Joseph Needham of the United Kingdom also believed that China’s science and humanities are based on two main foundations. He said this: “It never separates man from nature,…” Therefore, five-star standards should have higher environmental requirements.
