A collection of Han Feizi's famous sayings, the king does nothing for the superior, and the ministers are afraid of the subordinates:
1. Those who follow the path of selfishness will lead to chaos, those who follow the law will rule
2 . Therefore, get rid of joy and dislike, and humbly believe in the path of equanimity. (Therefore, emotions such as closeness and disgust should be abandoned together in order to successfully use tactics)
3. You don’t see what you want. (The monarch should not reveal his preferences)
4. Get rid of the good and the evil, and the minister will see the truth; get rid of the old and wisdom, the minister will be self-prepared. (Only when a monarch hides his likes and dislikes can he see the true colors of his ministers; throw them away
5. Only by getting rid of old prejudices and not showing his wisdom can his ministers keep their duties)
6. If the master loves virtuous people, then the ministers will behave in a way that invites the emperor’s desire, but the affection of the ministers will not be effective. (The monarch likes to appoint talented people, so the ministers will whitewash themselves to cater to the monarch) (Explanation: It is better to let everyone perform their duties, and don’t place your hopes on individual talented people to prevent the transfer of power)
7. If the ministers see the truth, then the king will not be blind. (The true colors of the ministers are revealed, so the monarch will not be deceived)
8. Therefore, one can be wise by removing wisdom, be meritorious by removing virtuous people, and be strong by removing courage. (You can see clearly without wisdom, you can achieve great things without showing talent, you can still be powerful without showing off your bravery) 9. See without seeing, hear without hearing, know without knowing (see as if you didn’t see, hear as if you didn’t) Hearing, knowing and seeming not to know)
10. If the ruler sees evil, the officials will hide their secrets; if the ruler sees good, the officials will make false accusations. (If the monarch dislikes it, then the officials will hide it; if the monarch likes it, then the officials will use deceit to cater to it)
11. By relying on its power, it will be easy for people to go up and down. It's in place. This means that ministers cannot take advantage of their power.
12. If an old friend acts with the intention of benefiting others, he will be more harmonious; if the intention is to harm others, the father and son will be separated and resentful.
13. Therefore, when a country is governed by a clear ruler, if rewards are clear, the people will appreciate their merits; if punishments are severe, the people will follow the law.
14. The nature of the people is that they hate hard work but lose pleasure. Absence leads to desolation, desolation leads to ungovernance, and desolation leads to chaos. If rewards and punishments do not prevail in the world, they will be imprisoned.
15. Therefore, governing the people is impermanent, and only law is the rule. If the law changes with the times, governance will be achieved, and governance will be effective if it adapts to the times.
16. If a wise king does nothing for the superiors, the ministers will be afraid of the inferiors.
17. Explore its bosom and seize its power. The Lord uses it like lightning or thunder.
18. When little faith is achieved, great faith is established, so it is clear that the Lord accumulates faith. If you don’t believe in rewards and punishments, bans will not work.
19. The more you use meat to get rid of ants, the more you use fish to drive away flies.
20. If you love a minister too dearly, you will endanger the master; if you love a minister too dearly, you will definitely change the master's position.
