Born in Wujin County, Changzhou City, Jiangsu Province (now Wujin County, Changzhou City, Jiangsu Province), he is a descendant of Huang Tingjian, a poet in the Song Dynasty. Huang Jingren lost his father when he was four years old, and his family was poor. Although he had a poetic name when he was young, he began to travel around to make a living in the thirty-first year of Qianlong (1766) and was poor all his life. In forty-six years of Qianlong (178 1), Ren Xiancheng died in forty-eight years of Qianlong (1783).
