The Story of Zuiweng Pavilion was written by Ouyang Xiu, a famous writer and historian in the Northern Song Dynasty, in the fifth year of Qing Dynasty in Song Renzong (1045). The word Yongshu, a famous drunkard, was born in Luling (now Ji 'an, Jiangxi). Together with Han Yu and Liu Zongyuan in the Tang Dynasty, Su Shi, Su Xun, Su Zhe, Wang Anshi and Ceng Gong in the Song Dynasty, they are called "the eight great masters in Tang and Song Dynasties". Zuiweng Pavilion was written during Ouyang Xiu's tenure as the magistrate of Chuzhou.
