Three Words and Two Patterns, Three Words are three short story collections compiled by Feng Menglong in the Ming Dynasty; Two Patterns are two parody novels by Ling Mengchu. "Eternal Words to Awaken the World", "Essential Words to Tell the World", and "Words to Warning the World" are three words in two beats, collectively known as "Three Words". They are classic representatives of vernacular short stories in the history of ancient Chinese literature. Feng Menglong made unique contributions to Chinese literature with his creation, collection, arrangement and editing of novels, operas, folk songs, jokes and other popular literature. The emergence of the three-word two-beat pattern is of great significance in the history of literature, marking that the creation of short stories in our country's vernacular has reached a mature stage.
