Integrity is the best policy

In the past year, I like to read the Disciple Regulations when I have nothing to do. There is a famous saying in the Disciples' Regulations: When making a statement, faith should come first; deceit and deceit should be ignored. Cheat words, dirty words, and market atmosphere should be avoided. Integrity is also a core socialist value, and every citizen should abide by it. Coincidentally, several things I have seen or experienced recently are related to integrity. So, I wanted to write down some words to talk about this issue.

As a teacher, I often teach my students to be honest and to be honest children. There is a famous saying in English: Honesty is the best policy. In my classroom, I often combine this sentence to educate my students.

When I was waiting in line to watch a movie a few days ago, I had just finished cutting my ticket when I heard the staff say to the person behind me, you kid, it’s time to buy a ticket. "No way." I couldn't help but look back and thought, this kid is so tall that he should buy a ticket. But the child's mother seemed unwilling, so the staff said, "Then let me measure it." She picked up her child and ran to Studio 1. Is it necessary? Do you do this just for a small amount of money? Do you know what kind of impact this will have on your children? Can you educate your children well if you are so greedy and dishonest? Children are innocent and don’t understand anything. If they follow your example, what will happen in the future?

After watching the movie, when I was tutoring my children in English reading comprehension, I saw an article like this. The story goes like this: It is said that a new aquarium has been opened somewhere. In the museum, you can naturally see many marine animals and watch movies about sharks. Kids would definitely love going to a place like this. One Saturday morning, a foreign couple took her two sons to the aquarium. At the ticket office, this gentleman is the waiter. How much should they pay for the ticket? The female staff member replied: The ticket price is US$20 per adult or child over five years old, and children aged five and under are free of charge. How old are your two children? The gentleman replied, The older one is six years old and the younger one is three years old, I think I have to buy three tickets. The staff member was very surprised and said, Sir, why don't you want to save $20? If you told me that your eldest son was only five years old, I would have no doubt. I would not know the difference between five and six years old. How do you think this gentleman responded? He smiled and said: Yes, that sounds correct, but my kids know the difference. What a smart father! Don't lose the opportunity to educate your children because of this small profit. Modern society needs integrity. We should tell the truth to the people around us, especially when facing children, we must set an example. Education is a lifelong matter. When it comes to children, the education of these two parents is completely different, reflecting two completely different qualities. It is said that parents are their children's first teachers. In order to educate your children well, each of us parents must lead by example and put integrity first. I think family education is more important than school education. As the saying goes: It's the son's fault if he doesn't teach his father.

I would also like to talk about the Chinese classics reading project that my children participated in in June, organized and implemented by the Ministry of Education and the State Language Commission. This activity is designed to lead the public, especially young people, to become better familiar with poetry and songs, get closer to Chinese classics, understand Chinese ideas more broadly and deeply, inherit Chinese traditional virtues, and promote the Chinese humanistic spirit. My children participated in a poetry writing competition, one of which was online voting. Expert review accounts for 90% and online voting accounts for 10%. The implementation plan requires that works be uploaded before June 15th, and then online voting will be conducted until June 30th. We upload the works as required and then invite friends and family to vote. We mobilize all our relatives and friends, and we can only cast one or two hundred votes a day. Alas, we have seen many works on the Internet that can cast tens of thousands of votes a day, some even more, and some can be cast within an hour. Four to five thousand votes, looking at that number, we almost gave up, but we will never give up until the end. Some people have advised that many activities now use ticket-based ticketing. You should also use ticket-based ticketing and spend some money. There are many ways to operate on the Internet. We ignore that and mobilize people in our circle of friends every day to vote as much as they can. We don’t want to do those false things. The key is that the impact on children is not good.

Our children also advised us that if we get tired of voting like this every day, forget it, and told us not to swipe our votes. We were very pleased that our children could say such things. We did not give up, nor did our colleagues, friends, and classmates, who helped us mobilize the people around them to vote for us. We are very grateful for this. Some people kept voting, seeing that others had so many votes, and they were hopeless. They said they gave up later because they thought it wouldn't work, so they didn't insist on voting anymore. I told them that it was not entirely dependent on voting. Voting only accounted for 10% and 90% of expert review. Then they insisted on helping vote until the last day. During the voting process, we gave up several times. When we only had more than 1,000 votes, others already had 80,000 or 90,000 votes. By the time we cast the last 3,000 or 4,000 votes, the top 100,000 or 20,000 people were already there. You can only truly appreciate the ups and downs of this experience by participating in it. The sky has eyes. The organizing committee office of the Chinese Classics Reciting, Writing and Speaking Competition announced on July 16 that the number of fraudulent votes for related works will be cleared. I was very happy when I saw it. There is no better news than this. Although the results of the poetry writing competition will be announced at the end of July, I don’t know if my children’s works will be shortlisted. After all, it is a national competition. I was still excited for a long time, not for anything else but applauding this kind of act of promoting righteousness, especially the targets of this event are our young friends, who are the future of the motherland and the hope of the nation. At any time, no matter when and where, we must teach them to be good citizens with integrity, a sense of justice, integrity and responsibility.

On August 1st, I couldn’t help but open the official website of Chinese Classics again and found that my child’s article was shortlisted. There were 802 works shortlisted for the junior high school group, and I was among the 18 shortlisted articles from Anhui. Boy, I'm so excited. Therefore, be an honest person and work hard, no matter what the result is, you will have no regrets. There is hope and a future with hard work. You must be honest, honest, and ethical as a human being. Never deviate from this basic moral code.
