This is my writing motto. In "motto", "seat right" means on the right side of the seat; and "motto" refers to the inscription placed on the seat for protection. But in fact, the person who originally created the motto was Cui Yuan of the Eastern Han Dynasty
He made an inscription and placed it on the right hand side of the desk seat
for self-discipline
The old day is "seat on the right". This inscription is not for protection
Therefore, "motto" is the correct writing. Details can be found in the following story: Introduction: Brother Cui Yuan of the Eastern Han Dynasty was killed. Yuan fled after avenging his brother. He was later pardoned and made a memorial to warn himself. See Selected Works Annotated by Six Ministers: Cui Yuan's Motto: Annotated by Lu Yanji. Later, he said that the motto for those sitting around to be wary of themselves is Picture reference: 140.111.34.46/dict/fonts/fa41. The background of the origin of the motto: During the Eastern Han Dynasty, the motto, which was a type of inscription in the contemporary concept, was born. The first person to create the motto was Cui Yuan, a calligrapher of the Han Dynasty. Regarding the background of Cui Yuan's motto and the full text of this motto, it is contained in "Selected Works". Cui Yuan, whose courtesy name was Ziyu, was a native of Anping, Zhuo County (now part of Hebei Province). When he was young, he had great ambitions and was eager to learn. One day, his brother Cui Zhang was killed. Cui Yuan was so angry that he killed his enemy to avenge his brother, but he also caused a great disaster. He was on the run to avoid being pursued by the government. During this period, he was hiding from the police, like a frightened bird, and was miserable. A few years later, fortunately, he was granted amnesty by the imperial court and was able to return to his hometown. After learning from the painful experience, Cui Yuan examined the consequences of being brave: not only did he suffer from displacement, but he also lost time, neglected his studies, and felt endless regret in his heart. After pondering for a long time, I wrote an inscription with a pen and placed it on the right hand side of the desk for review day and night, "I put it on the right side of my seat, so it is called a motto." The first motto of our country is now copied below by the motto pioneered by Cui Yuan: There is no way for a Taoist person to express his own strengths. Be careful not to remember when you give to others, and be careful not to forget when you receive gifts. World reputation is not enough to be admired, but benevolence is the rule. If you hide your mind and then act, there will be no harm in slandering others. Don't let your name exceed its true meaning, keep the holy place of fools. In nirvana, the light is slowly contained. Those who are born with weakness, Lao's advice is to be strong. The ambition of a humble husband is so long that it is difficult to measure. Be careful about what you say and what you eat, contentment is better than uncertainty. If you practice persistently, you will be fragrant for a long time. Upon careful consideration, this motto has profound meaning, and it can be regarded as the guideline for the ancients to conduct themselves, treat others, conduct themselves in society, and cultivate themselves. Among them, "The shortcomings of those who are ignorant are not the strengths of oneself", "Be careful when giving to others, be careful not to forget what is being done to others", "Be careful in speaking and eating wisely, contentment is better than unknown", "Practice with perseverance", etc., are worthy of the name of wise sayings. .
