Ji Hai's Miscellaneous Poems (V) Author: Gong Zizhen
The vast sadness of parting extends to the setting sun, away from Beijing, riding a whip to the east, feeling that people are on earth.
I quit my job and go home, just like a flower falling from a branch, but this is not a heartless thing. It can be turned into the soil of spring and can also play a role in nurturing the next generation.
I was full of sadness, and the sun set. From then on, I traveled around the world with a whip. Falling flowers still have feelings and intentions, and turn into spring mud to cultivate new flowers.

Ji Hai's Miscellaneous Poems ***3 15. Jihai refers to the year of Qing Daoguang 19 (1839). One year before the Opium War, Gong Zizhen resigned from his post and went south to meet his family. On the way back and forth between north and south, he wrote a set of huge poems. This article is selected from the fifth article of Ji Hai Zashi. At that time, the author resigned angrily and left his relatives and friends, full of worries. It is really a "mighty departure".
The word "mighty" not only expresses sadness, but also contains all kinds of complicated thoughts and feelings, such as dissatisfaction with the society at that time, anger against the politicians, and concern about people's lives. At the same time, we can imagine that the author left when he resigned.
"It clears up in the daytime" means that the author returns to the south with sadness, because the sadness is trapped in his chest, so he feels that time passes quickly and the sun will set before he knows it. The choice of "daytime" instead of "sunset" coincides with the author's mood at that time, and also metaphor the social reality of the country's gradual decline at that time.
"Singing Whip" refers to the poet's whip, and "East Finger" refers to the destination of this trip-hometown (Zhejiang). "Tianya" is still far from home. From this sentence, we can imagine that in the evening, the poet stood on horseback, facing his hometown, looking forward to writing poems with mixed feelings. What is the poet thinking at this time? Want to fall in love and protect flowers.
"Falling red" means falling flowers. The original intention of the whole sentence is that the petals falling from the tree are not heartless things, but adhere to the surface, rot into mud, turn into spiritual souls, and raise the spring flowers of the year. The author compares himself to the circular law of nature, saying that although he resigned, he would still care about the future and destiny of the country.
This philosophical remark conveyed the poet's commendable spirit of "seeking politics even if he is not in his place", showed the poet's unparalleled determination, and became a famous sentence throughout the ages, inspiring many people to "sit on an old horse and have a thousand miles of ambition."
