Extended information
It has been my wish for 20 years to compose the melody of Schiller's "Ode to Joy"!
——Beethoven
The "Ode to Joy" we are hearing now is not a simple song. It comes from the finale of Beethoven's "Ninth Symphony" , the lyrics of "Ode to Joy" are taken from Schiller, the great German playwright and poet.
Beethoven grew up in the era of the French Bourgeois Revolution. He was deeply influenced by "liberty, equality, and fraternity" and created a large number of works with the flavor of the times. In a large sense, Schiller's poem "Ode to Joy" embodies the desire of people all over the world for unity, friendship, peace and freedom, which is also Beethoven's highest ideal.
When Beethoven was 22 years old, he had the opportunity to read this long poem by Schiller and was attracted by its majestic power. He came up with the idea of ??setting a musical score to this extended poem, turning it into a great piece of music.
Forced by busy work and life, Beethoven had to slow down the composition of "Ode to Joy". He could only try to find the most suitable notes in the cracks of time.
In his later years, Beethoven always had a great dream - to create a symphony that was more successful and more majestic than any of his previous works, as a representative work.
Beethoven signed a contract with a theater, saying that he would compose a symphony and complete it within a year.
The creation process of this symphony was really complex: the unprecedented addition of a cantata, which condensed his life's strength and belief, took Beethoven too much energy and took two years to complete. What's even more exaggerated is that in order to maintain his creative passion, he moved four times. ?
Although the composition of this song took a long time, it was relatively smooth and completed in one go. After the completion of this work, Beethoven named it "Symphony No. 9" and used the adapted and improved "Ode to Joy" as the final movement.
