In 1960s, American physicists Murray gherman and G Zweig independently proposed that hadrons such as neutrons and protons are composed of quarks, and quarks are the more basic units. Many Chinese physicists call it "straton", which is also translated as "quark" in Taiwan Province Province, but it is not widely used.
