Buddha's Heart
Once Su Dongpo asked Zen Master Foyin: "Zen Master, what do you think I look like?"
Chan Master Foyin said: "You look like Buddha."
Su Dongpo was happy and asked the Zen master again: "Why don't you ask me what you look like?"
The Zen master didn't answer.
Su Dongpo said: "Zen Master, ask me what do you look like."
Zen Master Foyin fulfilled his wish and said: "What do you think I look like?"
Su Dongpo said: "I think you look like shit."
Back home, Su Dongpo was very proud and said to Su Xiaomei: "Little sister, I won against Zen Master Foyin today. Do you want to hear it?" ?”
Su Xiaomei asked, “How did you win against Zen Master Foyin?”
Su Dongpo said, “Do you want to hear it? Let me tell you...”
After Su Xiaomei heard this, she said: "Chan Master Foyin didn't lose, you lost."
Su Dongpo didn't understand. Su Xiaomei said: "Chan Master Foyin looks at people with a Buddha's heart. He thinks you look like a Buddha." "You look at people with shit, so..."
Tit-for-tat
After Su Dongpo was demoted to Huangzhou, he lived there for several years. One evening, he and his friend monk Foyin went boating on the Yangtze River. While he was toasting and drinking, Su Dongpo suddenly pointed to the river bank with his hand and smiled without saying a word. Foyin looked around and saw a yellow dog gnawing on a bone. He suddenly realized something and threw the fan inscribed with Su Dongpo's poem into the water. The two looked at each other and couldn't help laughing.
It turns out that this is a dumb couplet. Su Dongpo's first couplet is: Dog gnaws (monk's) bones on the river.
The second couplet of the Buddha's seal is: Water flowing through Dongpo corpse (Dongpo poem).
Insinuating things
One day at noon, Su Dongpo went to visit Foyin. Foyin was busy cooking. As soon as he put the cooked fish on the table, he heard the little monk report: Lay Buddhist Dongpo is visiting.
Foyin was afraid that the secret of eating fish would be exposed, so he caught the fish in a chime and hurriedly went out to greet the guests. The two went to the Zen room to drink tea together. When Su Dongpo was drinking tea, he smelled the fragrance of fish and saw the chime turned upside down on the table, and he knew it. Because the chime is a percussion instrument used by monks to perform Buddhist rituals. It is usually held with the mouth facing upwards, but today it is turned backwards, which means there must be something fishy.
Foyin said: "The layman is here today. I wonder if you have any advice?"
Su Dongpo deliberately made a joke on the old monk, and said in a serious manner: "I encountered a difficult problem today. I came here to ask the elder for advice."
Foyin quickly put his hands together and said, "Amitabha, how dare you, how dare you.
Su Dongpo smiled and said: "Today my friend sent out a couplet. The first couplet is: Xiangyangmendi spring is always there." I don’t know how to write the second couplet next time, so I hope the elders can give me some advice. "
Foyin didn't know what the plan was, so he blurted out: "A layman is very talented and knowledgeable. Why is he so forgetful today? This is an old couplet. The second line is: People who accumulate good deeds have more than enough to celebrate." ”
Su Dongpo couldn’t help laughing: “Since the elder has clearly stated that there are fish in the chime, please let me feast on it!” "
Retort to each other
According to legend, Su Dongpo was walking with Wang Anshi once and saw that the foundation of a house had been moved and one wall tilted eastward. Wang Anshi made a mockery of Dongpo by uttering the previous sentence: "This wall The east slope is sloping! "
Su Dongpo raised his head and laughed, then recited the second couplet to ridicule Wang Anshi: "It's because Anshi was wrong!" ”
The embedded name is clever, and the pun is particularly clever.
Secretly helping the groom
When Qin Shaoyou married Su Xiaomei, he was faced with difficulties one after another. When he arrived at the door of the new house, Su Xiaomei Another couplet: The moon behind closed doors and pushed out the window
Qin Guan thought for a long time but could not finish the couplet. Su Dongpo wanted to help, so he picked up a stone in the distance and threw it into the lake. Qin Shaoyou was inspired and blurted out. : Throwing stones to break open the sky under the water
There is no end to learning
When Su Shi was young, he was very talented. He read extensively in poetry and books, was well versed in classics and history, and was good at composition, so he was praised by people.
One day, Su Shi wrote a couplet in front of his door: "Know all the characters in the world; read all the books in the world." The pairing of "end" and "everywhere" vividly portrays Su Shi's pride at that time. Unexpectedly, a few days later, an old man with a gray hair and a childish face came to Su Shi's house to "ask for advice". He asked Su Shi to recognize him. The book. Su Shi took it indifferently and was startled when he took it. He didn't understand a single word in the book. The arrogant Su Shi couldn't help but feel ashamed, so he had to say no to the old man, and the old man walked away with a smile. < /p>
Su Shi was so ashamed that he ran to the door and added two characters to each couplet. His state of mind was completely new, and his neighbors were all impressed: "Be determined to read all the characters in the world; determined to read all the books in the world." "
The temple is cool
When Su Dongpo visited Mogan Mountain, he went to sit in a temple. The monk in charge of the temple saw a stranger coming and said casually: "Sit down. Then he shouted to the young monk: "Tea." "
After the two sat down and chatted, the host monk noticed that the other party was chattering away. Thinking that this person was extraordinary, he invited the guest into the side room to talk. After entering the room, the host monk politely said, "Please sit down!" and called out again. The young monk said: "Tea!" After further inquiry, he found out that the visitor was the famous Su Dongpo. The host monk quickly bowed and respectfully led him into the living room, and said repeatedly: "Please sit down!" and told the young monk: "Honor the incense." Tea!" Before Su Dongpo left, the presiding monk asked him to write a couplet. Su Dongpo was confident, smiled and waved his hand, and wrote in an instant:
Sit down, please sit down, please sit down
Tea, respectful Tea, fragrant tea
A bright light
One day, Su Dongpo and his brother-in-law Qin Shao went out of the city to play in the countryside. They saw a "Lei Bridge" built with three stones on the path. He kicked the stone bridge with his feet and recited the first couplet at the same time:
Kicked the three stones of Lei Bridge
He looked back at Qin Shaoyou and asked him to read the second couplet. After thinking about it for a long time, she didn't come up with the couplet. When she got home, Su Xiaomei saw her husband's displeased look and just asked what happened. When he asked, she found out that it was because of a couplet. He wrote the word "Out" and cut it into two sections with scissors. Qin Shaoyou suddenly realized and said the second line:
Cut the word "Out" into two sections
Note: The title of the previous article is " "The temple is very cold", he sneered and thought he was not bad. The title of this article "a bright light" refers to Qin Shaoyou's unclear point, but it is still very clear after he pointed it out. A smile.
Perfunctory wealthy family
It is said that in order to find a suitable husband, Su Xiaomei had chosen a son-in-law through writing. When the news came out, there were countless suitors. Among them was a wealthy man named Fang Ruoxu, who had been in love with her for a long time. , after hearing the news, he quickly applied. He submitted a few poems that he was proud of. Unexpectedly, the little girl saw that they were as pale as water, so she picked up a pen and wrote a couplet on them: There is little talent in the pen and no talent in the mind.
Su Dongpo was very anxious when he saw the couplets written by his little sister. The wealthy family of the Fang Mansion could not afford to offend him. In order to avoid trouble, he secretly added a word after the couplets of his little sister and changed the couplets to: Bi Di. He has rare talents and endless strategies.
Fang Ruoxu was really overjoyed after reading it. He was eager to see Su Xiaomei to express his sincerity. Su Dongpo knew that his younger sister didn't like him at all, and he was afraid that the joke would end badly, so he hurriedly made an excuse to stop him, saying: "My sister has some literary talents, but she is not good-looking, with a long face and a protruding forehead. If you don't believe me, I will read you a poem." Zhi: A tear of lovesickness last year has not flowed down my cheek. Before I even took three or five steps out of the room, my forehead first came to the painting hall.
How did Fang Ruoxu know that Su Dongpo was lying to him? He really thought that Su Xiaomei was lying. It was ugly, so he left in despair.
Sumen Scholar
One day, Su Xun came to the back garden and saw a stream of clear water flowing between the rocks and a gentle breeze. There was a burst of flower fragrance in the sky. The red sun was setting in the west, the green trees were covering the sky, and a crescent moon hung in the sky. The old man was immediately inspired by poetry, and he hurriedly called Su Shi and his younger sister, and the three of them sat down on the stone. Su Xun said: "Such a beautiful scene cannot be without poetry. Now I picked up the two words "cold" and "fragrant", and we each recited two lines of poetry, and these two words were to be the last words of the previous and next sentences in turn. What do you think? "
The brother and sister responded together: "Father said it well. ”
Su Xun was very happy to see his children agreeing together. He first recited two lines of poetry:
The cold water flows toward the stone, and the wind blows from the flowers.
Su Shi has always been famous for his poetry. After listening to his father's poems, he thought they were too ordinary and not good. Unexpectedly, while he was pondering, the naughty little sister said: "Brother usually writes poems, what kind of ideas are there. Quickly, I think about how quickly I came up with the poem that mocked my little girl for her high forehead, "Three or five steps before going to court, the forehead first reaches the painting hall". Why is my thinking blocked today? ”
When Su Dongpo heard this, he knew that the little girl was being naughty again, so he just smiled and recited two lines of poetry:
I sat down on the stone and my clothes were cold, and returned after stepping on the flowers. Remove the horse hoof fragrance.
Su Xiaomei’s poems, songs, calligraphy and painting are all exquisite. After listening to her father and brother’s poems, she felt that her elder brother’s poems were slightly better. It's good if it's good, but it seems inelegant. "The little girl was meditating for a while, and happened to hear the cuckoo's call in the distance. She felt emotional when she heard the sound, and she also came up with two poems:
The cuckoo's mouthpiece is cold, and the flowers and butterflies are dreaming. Fragrant.
As soon as the younger sister recited the poem, her father and brother couldn’t help but praise it.
It’s so wonderful that it’s easy to criticize.
Su Dongpo was demoted to Lingnan and became an official. When I was traveling in the mountains, I saw a young monk kneeling at the door of the temple with tears in his eyes. He was very strange and asked the young monk why he was like this. The young monk cried and said that it was because he accidentally knocked the lamp to the ground and broke it when he was lighting it. The old monk not only beat him, but also made him kneel at the gate of the temple for three days. When Su Dongpo heard this, he went into the temple to see the abbot.
The abbot in the temple heard that he was the talented scholar Su. When Su Dongpo came to visit, he was overjoyed. As soon as Su Dongpo entered the temple, the old monk flattered him in every possible way and begged Su Dongpo to leave a handwriting.
Su Dongpo hated this abbot, but in order to make the young monk at the temple gate. No longer suffering, he agreed to the old monk's request and said: "I can write, but I must ask the kneeling young monk at the door of the temple to come and grind ink and spread paper for me. "
When the old monk heard this, he immediately smiled and agreed repeatedly: "Amitabha, Lao Na will obey your instructions. "
The little monk polished the ink, unfolded the paper, and Su Dongpo wrote quickly, and a couplet was written in one stroke:
Eight thousand ordinary people returned home overnight, leaving nothing behind< /p>
Not long after, Foyin Yunyou came to this mountain. He burst out laughing when he saw the couplet and asked the old monk: "This couplet was originally two crossword puzzles. Didn't you guess it?" "The old monk hurriedly asked what it meant. Foyin asked for a pen and paper, wrote two words with a swipe of his brush, and walked away.
Brothers in trouble, sisters in trouble
One day, Su Dongpo said to Su Xiaomei Said: "They say you have extraordinary intelligence. If you can match my pair in one night, I will admire you." "Su Xiaomei smiled and replied: "Why do you need one night? "Su Dongpo saw that she was confident, so he said his first couplet:
The water fairy holds a jade hairpin and blows the sound slowly in front of the wind
After hearing this, Su Xiaomei secretly said that it was difficult. I was sorry for a moment. After a while, she saw a maid bringing tea under the moonlight, and she was struck by the scene:
The poppies are wearing red embroidered shoes, and the moonlight attracts Bu Bujiao
Dongpo listened to his sister's second line and praised it repeatedly.
This couplet appropriately embeds the six song names of "Water Fairy", "Poppy Poppy", "Jasper Hairpin", "Red Embroidered Shoes", "Slow Voice" and "Bu Bu Jiao", and uses personification to give it a specific image. Use the right skill to deal with things better.
Jiang Chengzi·Jiang Chengzi's dream on the night of the 20th day of the first lunar month of Yi Mao·Su Dongpo
Ten years of life and death are so vast that they cannot be forgotten without thinking. Thousands of miles of lonely tomb, nowhere to say desolation. Even if we meet each other, we should not know each other, our faces are covered with dust and our temples are like frost.
At night, I suddenly returned home with a deep dream, and I was dressing up outside the small window. They looked at each other without words, only a thousand lines of tears. It is expected that the broken part of the intestines will be cut off every year, on a bright moonlit night, there will be short pines.
Appreciation
In the history of Chinese literature, since the "Book of Songs", "poems of mourning" have appeared. Until Su Shi in the Northern Song Dynasty, during this period, the most famous mourning poems (words) were Pan Yue in the Western Jin Dynasty and Yuan Zhen in the Mid-Tang Dynasty. Li Shangyin in the late Tang Dynasty also wrote a memorial work. Their works are poignant and moving. Maybe he writes about being alone and miserable after his lover passes away, or feeling sad when he sees the relics; or the writer is now rich and noble, recalling the past, lamenting the wretchedness of the world and the impermanence of destiny; or he writes about his deep and profound longing and recollection in the form of a poem. The confusing words and colors are expressed, and it is heartbreaking to read. And Su Shi's "Jiang Chengzi" is also a song of mourning. However, compared with the predecessors, the expressive art of Dongpo's poem has different characteristics. This poem is "Remembering Dreams", and it clearly writes about the day of the dream. But although it is said to be "remembering dreams," in fact, only the five sentences in the second part are about dreams, and the rest are all about expressing feelings and sorrow. The writing is sincere and simple, painful and touching.
When Su Dongpo was nineteen, he married Wang Fu, who was sixteen. Wang Fu was young and beautiful, and he served his relatives very filially. The two had a deep love for each other. Unfortunately, destiny is unpredictable, and Wang Fu died at the age of 27. This was a huge blow to Dongpo, and the deep pain in his heart and mental pain are self-evident. Su Shi said in "The Epitaph of His Dead Wife Wang": "On Dinghai in May of the second year of Zhiping (1065), Su Shi's wife Wang (named Fu) from Zhao County died in the capital. In June of Jiawu, she was buried in the west of the capital. On Renwu next June, he will be buried eight steps northwest of the tomb of the late monarch and his wife, Kelongli, Anzhen Township, Pengshan County, northeast of Meizhou." In a calm tone, there was great sadness. In the eighth year of Xining (1075), Dongpo came to Mizhou. On the 20th of the first month of this year, he dreamed of his beloved wife Wang, and wrote this eulogy that has been passed down through the ages.
The first three sentences are clear and sincere, and deeply touching. The loving couple parted ways forever, and time passed by ten years in a blink of an eye. Although people are gone, the beautiful scenes in the past are "unforgettable"! Now that I think about it, I feel even more painful that humans and heaven are separated forever. In the ten years after Wang Fu's death, Dongpo was politically suppressed because of his opposition to Wang Anshi's new law, and he was in a sad and angry mood. After arriving in Mizhou, he encountered bad years again and was busy dealing with government affairs, making his life extremely difficult. It coincides with the tenth anniversary of the death of my late wife, a day that touches the heartstrings. The past suddenly comes to my heart, and the emotional undercurrent that has been stored in my heart for a long time suddenly opens like a floodgate, surging forward and unstoppable. So there is a dream, which is real and natural. Thinking of the death of my lover, I am filled with emotions. Thousands of miles away, there is no place to express desolation, and the words are extremely painful. The author's loneliness, desolation, helplessness, and eagerness to tell others are particularly touching. Then, "Even if we meet, we should not know each other, our faces are covered with dust, and our temples are like frost." He also confuses reality with dreams, including all kinds of personal worries and anger after death, including the aging of the face and the decay of the body. At this time, he He is less than forty years old and already has "frosty hair" on his temples. It has been ten years since she passed away, but she wants to "even if we meet again". This is a desperate assumption, deep, sad, and helpless. It shows the author's deep nostalgia for his lover and also vividly depicts his personal changes. The description makes the meaning of this poem even deeper.
The second part of the poem truly enters the "dream state". The author returned to his hometown in a dream. There, meet and reunite with your lover. Here the author describes a simple, touching and beautiful scene - "Xiaoxuan window, dressing up". The author uses such a common and unforgettable scene to express the eternal impression of lovers in his mind. But the wonder of Dongpo's writing power lies in the following two sentences - "Looking at each other without words, only a thousand lines of tears"! Wonderful for eternity. Zhengwei was speechless and seemed to be in deep pain. Only silence can speak louder than words. It is only the silence that makes this dream feel infinitely desolate. "Silence is better than sound at this time." Silent victory is all about this.
The last three sentences bring the dream back to reality. Imagine the pain of the deceased to express your condolences. Especially the two sentences of "Moonlit night, short pine hills" are desolate and lonely, and soul-sucking.
As the saying goes, "The eternity of heaven and earth will eventually come to an end, and this hatred will last forever" (Bai Juyi's words). The last three sentences of Dongpo's poem are profound, painful, and lingering, making people have endless aftertaste.
