When many people see the word "Langya Mountain", they immediately associate it with "Nirvana in Fire", but it has nothing to do with it. Langya Mountain, called Motuo Mountain in ancient times, was named after Si Marui, the founding emperor of the Eastern Jin Dynasty, lived here when he was the king of Langya. The scenic spot is 3 17 meters above sea level, with beautiful natural scenery and rich cultural landscape. For thousands of years, it has been an elegant gathering place for dignitaries and literati.
The ancients thought that there was no other mountain besides Langya Mountain, so it was called "the first scene in eastern Anhui" and "there was no other mountain after Penglai". This mountain attached to the urban area of Chuzhou has a relatively simple climbing route. Along the way, various cultural landscapes and natural scenery are interspersed. After entering the scenic spot, walk more than 900 meters along the straight mountain road, and you will arrive at Zuiwengting Scenic Spot.
Although the scenery of Langya Mountain can be compared with Penglai Wonderland, its popularity is far less than that of Zuiweng Pavilion at the foot of the mountain. In the seventh year of the Northern Song Dynasty (1047), the abbot of Langya Temple specially built a pavilion at the foot of Langya Mountain to entertain Ouyang Xiu who was in Chuzhou at that time. Since then, Ouyang Xiu often went to the pavilion with friends to drink and compose poems, calling himself "Zuiweng", hence the name "Zuiweng Pavilion".
According to legend, it was in Zuiweng Pavilion that Ouyang Xiu created the masterpiece Zuiweng Pavilion. In particular, the phrase "the meaning of drunkenness is not in wine, but also in mountains and rivers" is even more fascinating and fascinating. Zuiwengting is also famous for the article Zuiwengting Ji. Together with Hu Xin Pavilion in Hangzhou, Taoran Pavilion in Beijing and Aiwan Pavilion in Changsha, it was selected as one of the four famous pavilions in China, and was praised as "the first pavilion in the world".
It is worth mentioning that "the meaning of drunkenness is not in wine, but also between mountains and rivers" refers to Langya Mountain. In addition to Zuiweng Pavilion, Ouyang Xiu also wrote more than 100 poems (articles) praising the scenery of Langya, such as Fengle Pavilion during his tenure as the magistrate of Chuzhou, among which the most famous Zuiweng Pavilion and Fengle Pavilion were inscribed by Su Shi himself.
With the increasing fame of Zuiweng Pavilion, Langya Mountain has gradually become a gathering place for people. For thousands of years, literati of all ages, including Wang Anshi, Su Shi, Xin Qiji, Lu You and Wang Yangming, have written valuable literary works on the mountain. Today, when people stroll through Langya Mountain, they can still find more than 300 cliff stone carvings and inscriptions scattered in the mountains. These precious historical sites have now become valuable witnesses of human history in Langya Mountain.
Langya Mountain did live up to the praise of the great poet. Zuiweng Pavilion, Yefang Garden, Tong Yuan, Langya Temple, Nantianmen and Shenxiu Lake are beautiful and elegant. Get out of Zuiweng Pavilion, cross Shenxiu Lake, and continue to climb for about 40 minutes, then you will reach Langya Temple at the foot of Langya Mountain. The temple was founded by Li Youqing, the secretariat of Chuzhou, and Chen Fa, a monk in the Tang Dynasty (766). It is a famous Buddhist shrine in eastern Anhui.
There are 85 scenic spots and sites in Langya Temple, such as Daxiong Hall, Tibetan Scripture Building, Infinite Hall, Sanyou Pavilion, Zhuoying Spring, Hongxue Cave, Guiyun Cave and Shishangsong. Walking into the mountain gate, there are scattered pavilions, gurgling springs pass around the temple, and the 8-meter-high "White marble Guanyin statue" stands under the shade of green trees. The cliff stone carvings of past dynasties have been hailed as one of the "Twelve Scenes of Chuzhou" since ancient times.
Visitors can climb the Nantianmen Mountain, the highest peak of Langya Mountain, and other peaks are short in the sky. Follow "Erjiu Road" or "Tianmen Denggao Road". Every year on the ninth day of the first month, a grand "Temple Fair on the Ninth Day" will be held here. At that time, local residents will come in droves, and the scene is very lively. It is worth mentioning that on July 3rd, 1992, CCTV also filmed a rare "mirage" spectacle in Nantianmen, adding magical colors to Langya Mountain.
