How to educate primary school students about gratitude
The Chinese nation has a long history. The history of civilization for more than 5,000 years has given birth to many excellent traditional virtues, especially gratitude, and has left lasting words. "Drink water and think of its source", "The kindness of a drop of water should be repaid by a spring", "Whoever speaks from the heart of an inch of grass will be rewarded with three rays of spring light", "Who knows that every grain of food on the plate is hard work", "It is not a gentleman to know the kindness but not to repay it", etc. etc., all reflect the traditional virtue of "gratitude".
But currently, the lack of gratitude awareness is very common. Modern society has become the "only child era". The "421" family model of "four elderly people, two parents and one child" has become the dominant society. The pampering and doting on the only child has fostered the children's self-awareness and everything. Their activities are all centered on themselves. At home they are the "little emperors", but at school they are arrogant and have only themselves in their eyes. They only know "what should I do" but not "what should I do"; they only know "what I want". I don’t know “what you want from me”; I don’t know how to respect teachers and elders and care for others.
For our nation, and for the thousands of years of honor of our "Land of Ceremonies," we have the responsibility and obligation to educate our students to learn to be grateful and to cultivate the quality of gratitude in our students.
In this regard, how do we educate primary school students about gratitude?
1. Activity guidance method.
Organize relevant activities in a timely manner to create an educational atmosphere of "gratitude" to purify students' minds.
The first is to read books or search on the Internet to find famous sayings about "gratitude". Students communicate, read famous quotes of gratitude, and post them on the walls of the classroom.
The second is to collect "gratitude" stories and hold storytelling sessions. Let students feel the care of relatives, teachers, friends, and strangers around them from the story, and feel the warmth from the depths of their hearts. They should abandon self-centeredness, try to see the hardships of life from the perspective of others, and appreciate the joy of life. Warm and cold, feel the deep family affection.
The third is to write a letter of gratitude. Let students write letters of gratitude to touch their hearts. No matter who is helpful to us or kind to us, we must contain the sincerity and gratitude in our hearts between the lines.
The fourth is to "reduce the burden" on parents. Take on the housework within your ability at home, and send your sincere blessings on specific holidays (Mother's Day, Father's Day, New Year's Eve), wash your parents' feet, beat their backs, and help your parents do the housework you can. Experience the hardships of being a parent. For example: I gave an assignment on the Double Ninth Festival last year - wash the feet of the elders and write down their feelings. The children's heartfelt comments were very real and touching, and I still retain them to this day.
The fifth is polite greetings. We should take the initiative to greet our elders when we see them, so that when parents return home after a busy day, they can hear the most comfortable words from their children, and while enjoying family happiness, they can forget the fatigue and worries of the day.
2. Role modeling.
“If you are upright, you will do it if you are not told; if you are not upright, you will not follow orders.” To form the sense of gratitude among primary school students, they must also learn from their teachers, experience and imitate them. "Learn to be a teacher, and behave as a model for the world." You may have seen the commercial on TV - mother washing feet. This is the power of role models. Parents and teachers should be student-oriented. They should not only educate and guide students, but also help and care for students. They should be good teachers and helpful friends of students. They should use their own words and deeds to constantly and subtly influence students, so that they can become role models for students to be grateful.
3. Atmosphere edification method.
Let students learn to be grateful in a subtle way. Schools should actively create a culture of gratitude, such as regularly playing gratitude songs, such as "Mom's Kiss", "Mother", "Grateful Heart", etc., to feel kindness in the songs and cultivate a grateful heart in the songs; they can also carry out regular Some gratitude activities include creating handwritten gratitude newspapers, organizing essay collection activities with the theme of "A grateful heart touches you and me", etc.
“What is frozen is not a day’s cold.” Gratitude education is by no means a problem that can be solved overnight, but a process that is continuously improved in daily education.
Teachers shoulder the responsibility of educating children about gratitude. On the one hand, we must sincerely care for every child and infect them with the power of words and deeds; on the other hand, we must be skillful in conceiving, carefully designing various forms, and The rich and colorful activities that incorporate gratitude education can achieve the effectiveness of gratitude education for students’ self-perception, self-education, self-improvement, and self-practice!
