Luo Chengxiang (1865 to 1926), courtesy name Gongsu, was born in Zizhong, Sichuan. In the 21st year of Guangxu's reign, he became the number one scholar and went to Shanxi as an academic envoy.

Luo Chengxiang was born on May 20, 1865 on the south bank of Suoshui Pavilion, Yitong River, Jinzhong Town, Huize County (now outside the west gate of Huize County). His original surname was Li. His mother died at the age of seven, and the father and son depended on each other.

His father was not good at managing his family and his life was difficult. When Luo Tenghuan (named Wenting) and his wife from Zizhou, Sichuan came to Huize to do business in red and green paper and other items, the business was booming. Li's father was about to become a child. His son was adopted as a son by a couple named Luo, and his adoptive mother was also named Li. Soon, the couple surnamed Luo made some money in Huize and bought some mountain products and authentic medicinal materials such as Poria cocos in Huize. They took their adopted son, who changed their name to Luo Chengxiang, and returned to his hometown of Zizhou, Sichuan.
